Shannon - Yea, just fine, Group hug Group hug Group hug just major winds last night again, but no hail, no tornados. Can't say anything for the eastern plains.. the storm built up over my area of town then blew out east. But they're waaaaaaaaay more prepared for that kind of horrible weather than we are here in the Big City (LOL Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing ). There's an area of town I absolutely love called Singing Hills, but I would NEVER wanna live out there. #1 - HOA controlled (BLEH) & #2 - too much bad weather!!

The only really big Colorado fire currently is up north of Denver near Fort Collins. It's about 1 1/2 hours north of Denver. It's at least 20,000 acres and was uncontrolled last I read. The smoke from this fire was blowing away from Denver yesterday and so far today. I was in Berthoud about 1/2 hour away from Fort Collins yesterday and the size of the smoke plume was incredible.

Denver also has quite a haze from the fires of New Mexico.

Tabby - I can only imagine it on your side of town. Yesterday morning (Sunday 6/10) it was SOO stinky on my side of town.. when I got up in the morning the entire neighborhood was hazy & nasty. Then by noonish it got windy here on the South side & the smell dissipated quite a bit.

Mama - We got smoke mostly from the northern fires (about 2.5-3 hours north). not good.. not good. Colorado is a giant box, as you know. Denver is not quite in the center, more like a bit off to the north of center & to the east. However, the I25 corridor is a humungo valley with the mountains to the west & the rolling Plains on the east, so winds follow I25 very nicely like a chimney. That's why when we get a storm from the North, it always smells like a dairy from the dairies up near Ft. Collins/Greeley. If it's a fast North storm, it smells like oil fields from Wyoming. If it's a south storm, it's usually violent due to the heat from the Baja (yes, we get Baja winds all the way up here!) combining with the cooler winds from Canada.. BOOM! Ft. Collins is WAY up north near the Wyoming border. It's about an hour & half north from downtown Denver, so about 2.5 hours from me north.

Found this map. Hope this clears up where it's at

The smoke lifted off the ground this morning, so I could actually see the mountains for the first time in a few days.

i was getting nervous when you mentioned the south wind.......just knew there was going to be something awful coming out of texas. lol.

i am understanding that resources may be limited. and that we have fires over at least 5 states. and i am also understanting that in new mexico the fires aren't burning as hot as they have been practicing controlled burns over the years. and it sounded like the one in colorado was only like 5% controlled. that don't sound good to me. is it likely that i could burn it's way to denver?

i can't believe it's 90 plus degrees where you are. what are the nightime temps again? i only was in colorado once and the one thing i remember that it might get warm in the daytime but IN JULY at night time you need a blanket or two.

Mama - Nighttime temps are in low-to-mid 50s this week, probably in the 60s later on. T-shirt weather. Don't need a blanket in that kind of weather. Smiling TMI, but I usually start off w/a sheet & nightgown & by dawn I've only got the nightgown (and a million cats).

Chances of the fires getting this close to town? None. There's a number of cities between Fort Collins & Denver, and then I'm on the far far far SE corner of the metro so it'd have to chew through 30 cities (there's.. 32? cities in our metro) to get to me. I just feel horrible for those poor people who are losing their homes left & right. The north fire was natural (lightning), but dunno yet on the southern fire. The northern fire (High Park fire http://www.9news.com/news/arti...) is 50% contained Hurray! Hurray!

"There are 117 engines on the scene and 17 helicopters, including five Type 1, three Type 2, seven Type 3, three Blackhawks and five heavy air tankers are battling the blaze.

Larimer County officials say 189 homes burned, making it the "most destructive fire" in Colorado history. The total cost to fight the fire is estimated to be $14.7 million. In comparison, the September 2010 Four Mile Canyon Fire burned more than 6,300 acres and destroyed a total of 169 homes. The 2002 Hayman Fire destroyed 133 homes and burned 138,000 acres of forest."

The largest fire in Colorado history, the Hayman fire (2002) was a monster. It rained ash over the entire Denver metro for about a week.

IT'S RAINING!! A nice, gentle misting rain! The kind that just settles down like kitten fluff and angel's tears... or something like that. WHO CARES.. IT'S RAINING!! AND NOT A DOWNPOUR!! YAY!!!!!

This should help the fires out a lot if they're getting this kind of gentle moisture... *cross fingers, toes, & eyeballs*

Well, unforunately the rain has stopped, but the temperature has DROPPED since I got up this morning. It was reading 67degs, and now it's 64!

Mama - No, Tabby's also in the Denver Metro, but in the NW corner versus me being in the SE corner.

This page here will show you, once you expand it out a little, exactly where the fires are compared to Denver. We're A-OK for now. :)
