I may have to give it a try. I think I have a singleton, no offsets. What can I loose?

Lynn, wait to see if your singleton will bloom. It may do offsets later in the season or next year. However if it is starting to bloom and you want to keep it, sharpen your knives and locate the earplugs...

Michelle, I have never seen one "crispy and dead" make a comeback. If you see a green center, then there is a chance. The exception is with the heuffelii. Since multiple rosettes share a common root, the root mass can be much larger than that associated with a Sempervivum rosette. I've had one recent case (heuffelii), where all the rosettes bloomed and died, leaving no visible rosettes, where the root the next spring produced a rosette. That plant is still with me, but the rosette has yet to increase in the number of plants. I figure that I will see that next year.

I don't mean to be discouraging. Any green you may see is good, brown and crispy is bad and likley will not recover..

These are some of my results from using the "pinching method" to preserve a blooming rosette. It doesn't always work. Maybe 75% of the time.

I am just thankful that none of mine are blooming. It's too hot to mess with anything. Looks like the pinching method has worked on those with flying colors!

I've tried the pinching method for the small semp and has gotten several offsets also. Comparing the two methods I've tried, the pinching method has faster result.

Just want to add that the pinching method is easier and faster, but division of the plant can save a rosette when the pinching method does not. The part of the plant signaling "bloom and die" does not normally go to all of the divisions, but will remain in an undivided rosette. So, you may need to make a decision about how important it is to preserve the variety and use that to help decide what to do.
