We spent Friday and Saturday at Longwood Gardens, essentially perusing the vendors on Friday and mostly taking in the Show on Saturday. The Show was beautiful and we certainly enjoyed the settings at Longwood Gardens as well.

Oh just gorgeous. It's my goal to go one year. That red cym is so pretty. Was it a big plant? Love the simple white and yellow catt. I always love the blooms on the Phal gigantea and wondered about the name since the flowers didn't look so big. Now I know it's the leaves. I sure hope my Den. aggregatum blooms like that someday! Interesting V. tricolor-different from v. suavis. The light was so beautiful there. Great shots, Ursula!

Is Alfredo Manrique part kovachii? That display of Seed Engei is gorgeous! Love the growth on his Neos!

Thanks Kathy! Smiling
Yes, the Phrag Alfredo Manrique is kovachii x Walter Schomburg. I thought it was gorgeous.
The Neos were very pretty. Lovey dubby
I loved the red Cym too, it was a good size, but not a gigantic plant.
We really got a kick out the Pescatorea lehmannii! Wild!!
The Dendrochilum tenellum is a charmer - grass with little caterpillars?

Kathy, you would love this Show!! Maybe next year? There is a very reasonably priced hotel right up the road....

I'd have to stop buying orchids to go!! Hilarious!
I have a Dendrochilum tenellum but it has never bloomed. I give it lots of water and med to low light. Probably not enough light....

Kathy, my Dendrochilums rarely sit in bright light. I flood them daily, they seem to want a lot of' moisture, but not really that much sun.

About the blue Phals, how is your cringe- factor on a scale from 0 to 10?
It was displayed in one of the long corridors next to the lab, with a sign to voice your opinion. The blue color is achieved by injecting/ soaking up a blue dye.
Btw a local Super market sold these the other day for 40 bucks for a large plant.

Ursula, looks like you had a wonderful time, thanks for taking so many terrific
photos for those of us that can only hope to go to a show. In your last group of
pictures, the 4th row all across are some towering white spikes...any idea what they
are? Foxgloves? I love the Pescatorea lehmannii 'Cadrona HCC/AOS with it's frilly,
shaggy pink and white scarf!

Ursula, Thanks for the great tour. Now I wish I had gone. Next year for sure! When I first saw that blue phal, I thought it was just the way the light was hitting it. If you like that color, why not grow hydrangeas.

Bill, perhaps next year we attend the SEPOS as a cubit-group. That would be fun!! Smiling

And I do agree about the blue Phals. They are weird looking.

About the blue Phals- I never cease to be amazed at what some (dishonest) vendors will do for sales! Who would buy that aside from a first time orchid buyer, or a high end decorator that didn't care about repeat blooms? That's as bad as the "ice cube" Phals they sell to innocents! I love blue flowers, but if they ever develop a blue Tulip, or rose I wouldn't buy one. ... they just wouldn't look natural. That being said, there were some Calanthes in that Japanese show that were really close to blue.

So I actually got to buy from SEPOS today. I went to Black Jungle and they were unpacking their loot when I arrived!! So I just had to buy 6 of them. (from aaorchids http://bit.ly/hCbG6T )

Cool! That is from the first time attending Malaysian vendor!
I sure hope he did well enough to return next year. He came with a lot of interesting stuff.
