I enjoy and have a weakness for gardening magazines, plus decorating and storage ideas types..I have decided to let at least six of them expire and not renew them. A lot of magazines have their own website that you can read online. I know that a lot of these same magazines can be purchased where I shop for groceries or at any drugstore that has a magazine or book section. Some of these seem to be so heavy laden with advertisements which I realize is costly to the company placing the ads. That's why I stopped Martha Stewart and Oprah's magazine. Traditional Home is getting to be the same; also Real Simple. They may have 3 good issues a year.

How many garderning magazines do you subscibe to? Have you noticed your local newspaper is getting thinner and thinner? The internet is hurting the newspaper companies as well as magazine companies.

Our local paper is more like a pamphlet than a newspaper now. They've let the vast majority of employees go, my friend among them. I wouldn't even subscribe but my husband wants it...

I don't subscribe to any magazines any more except Better Homes and Gardens. Too expensive for this cheapo. I rarely buy a copy at the store, they're way more expensive that way.

Garden Gate magazine sells wonderful paperback gardening books most are $9.95 with Free Shipping. Many times I have purchased gardening magazines from our grocery store magazine rack and always look through them first because several times I end up buying a magazine that I already have. I give it to another gardening friend that lives within 20-30 min. from here. She is in her first home and this is her second year of trying to make her flower gardens a show case and fighting clay soil. She is such a delightful person.

There are two that I buy because they are not monthly and there are very few ads. When there are ads they do not look like ads but garden ideas. They are Garden Gate, and Fine Garden.

I used to subscribe to Fine Gardening also but let it run out but have been thinking of renewing it again when the others expire. I can buy special issues of FG at the news stand in grocery stores or drug stores. I took about 5 yrs. of issues into one of our Garden Club meetings with FREE sign on them and one man asked me if he could have them all. I shared FG with another gardening friend.. I love the slip cases you can order for your issues of FG and also the 3 ring notebooks for GG magazine.
Guess it stems from not having many magazines or books in the house when I grew up. Our Uncle worked as a printer at Curtis Publishing Co. in Philadelphia and some years we would get a subscription to LHJ from him and Aunt B..when it ran out, they didn't renew it nor did Mama..I think when my brother was in BSA, they sent him a year's subscription to Boy's Life..Sometimes we had Reader's Digest..have no idea where that came from. Dear Aunt and Uncle are no longer living and Curtis Publishing Co. went out of business years ago.

There's only so much time I can spend reading. And I spend a lot of tome on ATP and Cubits. (I'm using my iPad now while I eat lunch). And there's a world of free garden information online. I mostly like to read novels, that's what I read mostly.

I downloaded a Nookbook from the library this morning. That's on my agenda today.

I have boxes of old gardening magazines in the basement and can't bare to throw them away....Horticulture, Fine Gardening, etc. Now I only get plant society magazines which I enjoy. I would usually buy a gardening magazine for one or two new articles. Now I can find a wide variety of information on the net.

I'm a gardening magazine nut..and tonight I went to the grocery store to buy fresh fruit to make up fruit salad for a senior citizens group gathering tomorrow and couldn't resist the 144 pages magazine called BACKYARD MAKEOVERS FOR LESS published by Birds&Blooms magazine. $10.99 and I've purchased several other special magazines by B&B and they are great. 345 fresh ideas for gorgeous Outdoor escapes. Strategies for shade, slopes and small spaces, 100 plants for problem spots and inside 35 dream gardens. We used to get the B&B magazine but discontinued it when the subscription expired. This is even better I think..I will look at this over and over on nights or during the wee hours when insomnia hits me, so it will pay for itself. Look for this at your local newstand, drug store magazine rack or grocery store racks.

I've been getting Birds and Blooms magazine for a long time, it's a great magazine full of ideas for gardening and attracting birds, the two things I love.

Since so many of my magazines are due to expire before end of this year, I went ahead and renewed Fine Gardening again..I miss getting it.

I only renew every other year actually, I don't seem to have much time for reading. Otherwise I just end up with large stack of unread magazines, that drives me crazy!

My gardening magazines are in those magazine boxes on my closet shelf..close by my nightstand so when I have trouble sleeping at night, I'll get a bunch down and browse through them, mostly looking at picture combinations for ideas..I should buy myself one of those tri-folding poster boards and clip the pictures out of color combinations so I'll remember it come Spring time when it is time to plant out. A photo album would take up less space but I can always slide the poster board under the bed, with all the other storage boxes of 48 yrs. of photos! having the photos would help me plan for seed ordering too for wintersowing or when the starter plants hit the garden centers in the spring.
I am always checking garden books out at the library. I have so many here too that I own. Some I've looked at when they came and maybe once or twice since and I wonder why I ordered some of them.
Ever done that?

Well, I do most of my reading on line. I like my desk-top because I can make the writing as big as I want and do not ever have to go look for my glasses. I also read the news online and get my weather, I hardly ever watch TV or pick up a paper. I like it that way, because if there is something I don't understand I can instantly get more information by Googleing it.
I get 'Birds and Blooms' mostly for the pictures.
