Discovered these on the clump while digging an After Eight this morning--relative to Susans(stilldew, aka lincolnites) June 5th thread. These can only be Stargazer X Starfighter open pollenation seedlings since they were the only plants in this garden--except for A-E, which didn't flower.. Stargazer was the pod parent. I remember letting the pods form after someone else had questioned/commented on Stargazer pollenation. But then, late last Fall I got so busy with seedling transplanting, that these were just 'let go' until clean up.

There were four altogether--two still had the seed hull attached (one discovered after photo) and almost went unnoticed until I put the clump on the bench. These were replanted in a seedling pot. I checked the area and there are several more in there, but I've probably hoed up or pulled up most already right along with the weeds.

That's really great that they seeded for you all by themselves. I don't know whether to laugh or cry all the work I put in to growing orientals from seed. I have had a few flower, but most of the time I lose them that second year. My love for them makes me never give up on them though. One day I hope I will succeed.

I would never be so lucky as to have them go to seed and leaf out on their own. Nice job!

Yep, Tracey, I was really surprized. I had the wrong setting with the camera, gosh darn! There are nine or ten Starfighters and eight Stargazers in there--all of which are 'hand me downs' as thank yous for little favors I do--as was the After Eight I was working on.

Like a cloud with a silver lining--yours turned out good after all too. Nice surprizes are sometimes extra nice! In my case, looking for little natural seedling sprouts was the last thing on my mind. I was so focussed in examining the plant for a cause to a problem, I overlooked/misstook them as 'simply grass' until I spotted one with the hull still attached. The two with the hull look good this morning and will survive. The two with the tiny bulb look 'flimsey'.

I have a Lilium mackliniae in the garden that is probably 8 years old from a bulb (not seed) that has never bloomed, hopefully because I have pulled it out accidentally twice, initially mistaking it for a weed during quick clean ups of the garden.

I hate it when I accidentally rip something out while weeding. I'm notorious for doing that too. Usually happens when A) I'm really tired and have been at it a long time or B) it's really too dark to be out their weeding,usually twilight or C) both.

Why just today I ripped off a lily stem. Funny how they camouflage themselves to look like the common weeds around here .

Well, little lily sprout cotyledons look just like a new grass seed coming up anyway. From eye level its hard to tell the difference unless it still has a seed hull on it.
