LOL Mine came back for a couple of years and then croaked, too. I don't think they really like our heat and humidity.

I agree grew up in Philly...Mom had wonderful mums which is when I started my love of them. Did OK growing some when I lived in the Buffalo area, but since moving to Florida no luck. I really miss them and the spring bulbs I grew up with and OMG lilacs. We had double French in Philly...when they bloomed I ALWAYS had some in my bedroom.
