A Bell Pepper Tip

By Sharon
June 14, 2012

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and stronger flavored.

Very good Sharon, I love peppers too. especially the red ones, they are so sweet, the bad part is you have to wait a long time for them to mature and turn red, I guess that is why they are more expensive than the green when you buy them. Smiling

I love the reds too, but I can never wait that long, especially when I only have a couple of plants.

Sharon, do you know what variety that 3-bumper is? If we're doing Mythbusters here, we have to document ! Hilarious! (and we're also gonna have to wait at least another month for my peppers...)

I am absolutely on top of it all, Sandy, Heh!! It's California Wonder or so the tag says and I got it at Lowes when it was about 3-4 inches tall maybe 4 -5 weeks ago. It is now quite full and large.

And I am moving right along with my pad and pencil without you because I am not waiting another minute to taste test my pepper, no matter how long you have to wait. (Even though it looks as if I'll be waiting another month on the next pepper. Sigh)

Just so you know Big Grin

Good idea not to wait for me to get peppers -- although I guess I could always buy some at the grocery store! nodding

No no no, Sandy. That would ruin the experiment. We have to know if 3 bumps and 4 bumps grow on the same plant. Then we have to decide about their flavor. Big Grin

They definitely can grow on the same plant. Last year I only grew Chinese Giant and had both shapes.

No comment on the taste comparison, though - I don't like raw green peppers, so mine either get left on the plant to turn red or get cooked, regardless of how many "bumps".

Good answer, Bit!!

I love them red too, but usually can't wait that long.

All this talk has made me crave peppers. I thought about having stuffed peppers but would have to go buy peppers if I did. Think I'll just add half of this one I have to stir fry. The other half went into my salad last night. Yummy.

Bit, you have those marvelous little veggie gardens, don't you? I remember reading about them on Cubits, I think. Right?? Your gardens are beautiful and made me more than a little bit envious.

I do have some veggie gardens, indeed. Thanks for the compliments on them *Blush* I haven't posted a lot about them this year because life has had me too busy to spend much time gardening or online, but my Cubit is still running and I pop on the Vegetables board here from time to time Smiling
