After considering a way to share orchid book reviews from large groups of orchid growers, I have decided to become an Amazon affiliate with links to the books and reviews that I will be recommending. It also gives me the potential to earn money for my work here. But there is absolutely no obligation for anyone to buy any books through these links. Smiling

So, to be clear and transparent:
Kathy (boojum) is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

I will only be providing links for books so there will be no banners, etc.

Understanding Orchids: An Uncomplicated Guide to Growing the World's Most Exotic Plants by William Cullina. I first heard of this book from the owners of J & L orchids at their open house last year. They mentioned the extensive discussion of options for media with great explanations of choices that they said has rarely been covered in other books. This is the book that began my quest for a Reverse Osmosis watering system. I read the recommendations for water quality including allowable salts level, checked the work up done on our well water when we moved here, and saw clearly why my orchids were struggling (high salt levels). This was the first book where I found those levels stated. Amazon has 20 reviews.

Miniature Orchids by Steven A. Frowine. My favorite book to look at before bedtime (and light weight despite the 264 pages). I always hope to dream about the photos in the book! I highly recommend this book to those of us who worry about running out of room!! The minis are a whole wonderful world and this is a great place to start. I especially like the Indices on page 217 with listings of Miniatures, Dwarfs and Compact orchids, the Ease of Culture listing on page 223 (organized by Easy, Intermediate, and a handful of Challenging orchids), the list of Light Requirements on page 229 (Low, Low to medium, Medium, Medium to high, and High), the listings of Temperature Preferences on Page 235 (Cool, Cool to intermediate, Intermediate, Intermediate to warm, and Warm), the listing of Seasons of Bloom on page 241 (Spring, Spring to summer, Summer, Summer to fall, Fall, Fall to winter, Winter to spring, Variable), listing for Fragrant Orchids on page 247, and the Sources for Miniature Orchids on page 250 (with nurseries with personal reviews of what is offered and lots of contact info). And then there are the photos. Love it!

I own most of the very same books shown in your first pic. In addition I have Wild Orchids of the Northeastern United States. A Field Guide by Paul Martin Brown. If you like to look for native Orchids of that region, this one is indispensable.
(I also have a few nice Orchid books in German, but I don't think anyone here would be interested....)

Books on cameras by David Busch. I have David Busch's Canon EOS 50D Guide to Digital SLR Photography.

Those with a point and shoot camera, this might be a good book for you Digital Photography Essentials: Point, Shoot, Enhance, Share.

I just bought this great book. It tells where they grow and when they bloom. It gives you a clear vision of how they grow in the wild but no advice for growing inside. Very comprehensive though and tons of nice photos!
