Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing We did have an UGLY Daylily Thread awhile back... maybe it needs to be resurected cause I have had a few Doody Britches myself this year! Whistling Whistling

Hahahahaha Now we understand why hybridizers charge so much for new intros- WE need to pay for their disappointments!

Don't worry, so far most of my seedlings are just OK, I struck it good with the one I named Patty's Gift - but that was just shear dumb luck. Even then, it's not phenomenal, just a nice seedling.

Besides Natalie - we have the entire summer to "evaluate" (meaning swear at, yell at, smile at) seedlings. The biggest problem I am having with the seedlings is the darn earwigs that are eating my buds. Can't tell if the blooms are truly ugly, or not! ~Jan

Jan, that was so funny, and I'm thinking that you are right!

The second bloom on the same scape as my first seedling opened today, and the color is just as ugly as the first bloom, but it's shape is perfect. I would have been much happier if this had been the first one! Well, except for the color! I can't even describe it, other than it's ugly!

That story of anticipation and anxiety for a two-year wait for a bloom is
hilarious, but I know the feelings. I wonder also if someone thinks I'm
nuts when they see me measuring and taking photos, and writing on
my pad of paper as if I am Doctor Daylily prescribing some miracle
cure for something as crazy sounding as "thrips".

Woohoo Jan! More people to confuse! I love it! I've got some new people moving in a couple doors down soon, and I can't wait to scare them with my early morning photo taking before I've gotten properly dressed or combed my hair!

Anytime I'm out driving very early in the morning (which is almost never!), and see someone who looks like I normally do, I'm sure I'd be fast friends with them. Obviously, they must love flowers!

Here's some good blooms from this morning! It took long enough to get some decent ones!

Supposed to be Entrapment, but I'm not sure. Can anyone verify that for me? I've had a bunch of horrible blooms on it that didn't actually look floral in nature. This is the first decent one.

Mystical Rainbow! I'm totally in love with this flower!

Rocket City

Spacecoast Surprise Purple has looked better, but I thought it was pretty this morning compared to a couple of days ago!

Splended Touch. I had another one that was a poly, so I'll post it on that thread, and it also belongs on ugly bloom thread!

Very nice flowers, and these will all get better and better.
I love Mystical Rainbow too. I am either familiar or already
have all but Entrapment, so don't know about that one. It is
very pretty though.

Thanks!! I was so excited when I saw some pretty blooms for a change! I was getting a little worried! I still have more uglies than pretty ones, but I'll take what I can get this year!

I had more uglies than pretty ones at the beginning of the
season too. The night temps were too cool for them to
open. However, they eventually get there.

Congratulations Margaret!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Awesome picture!!! Thanks for the link, too! I need all the help I can get! My problem right now is trying to figure out which setting on my camera to use to get a more accurate color. Seems like the colors are always off. My neighbor across the street is a photographer, and she's always ready to help, but she's got three little kids, so her time is limited. In return for photography lessons, I agreed to teach her how to bead, and I can't seem to get in the mood for that. So, that web site is just what I need!

Jan, you'd fit in perfectly in my neighborhood! While I've got a lot of older neighbors who wouldn't dream of coming outside in their robes, us younger ones (ha! Like we're young!) enjoy a stroll around the yard in our robes or PJ's! One neighbor, a few doors down, called me last week and asked if she could look through my truck for her keys. She had borrowed it the day before to pick up a load of mulch. When she got here, she was in her PJ's, and it was 3:00 in the afternoon! In her defense, she works nights, and was just getting up. She got to the door and had a horrified look on her face! I asked what was wrong, and she said that she wasn't sure if she had combed her hair! I told her that her hair was fine, but pointed out that she had forgotten to get dressed! We got a good laugh from that one! I told her to get back home and grab her camera. Nobody should be outside in their PJ's without one!

Thanks Natalie! I tip my hat to you. I don't know if you remember but the photo is of a lily that I bought at Costco last spring, you know, one of the packaged ones, anyway it was supposed to be Fire and Fog and from my research that's not what it is. Anyway I got it to bloom inside and that's where the photo was taken. I planted it in the garden last May, I hope it blooms this year to see if there will be any change in the shape of the bloom, which I happen to think is very pretty. But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lovey dubby

The contest is just for fun but also for learning to be a better photographer. You can ask questions in a couple of threads, everyone is happy to help.
