The other day I was at one of my favorite nurseries and spotted a plant of Japanese Iris Lion King. It perked my interest. I mentioned it on another thread and immediately 2 enablers [Polly and Eclayne} fed my plant addiction and encouraged me to try to grow some. I'm weak and as is typical for me I went to that favorite nursery for 1 and came home with 3. Besides Lion King they had Pink Lady and Royal Robe. I read that Polly said Pink Lady isn't registered but mine looks like her picture. They were 5.98 each, less than $20 for all three, large plants with bloom coming so how could I go wrong? I'll plant them tomorrow and if they are successful next spring I may be looking for some newer ones. Pink Lady

Gallon Pots....does Pink Lady look right? Lion King must have 15 divisions and has 7 scapes coming. I will be able to enjoy it this year and if it doesn't winter I will have got my moneys worth.

I guess there is really no right Pink Lady. I bought one just to see, and it's a very pale pink, all one color. A little like the one Joy posted, but no dark pink in it.

You can put your Pink Lady in the database, so people will see they are not uniform.

If you put 'Pink Lady' in won't people think it is real?

Polly....I just read your comments about Pink Lady on Garden Web from 2009. Interesting.....pictures on googled sites vary greatly. I'll grow it understanding that it is probably a noid. If it were a TB noid it would have to be gorgeous or I would discard asap.

I just checked the Iris Encyclopedia for JI Royal Robe....it is not there. Is it another imposter?

Yes.

Lucy, we're going to have to put them in to show the variability. Too many people are buying them. Almost all my bulb wholesalers carry them this year. We will note it's not registered. But keep in mind, a lot of plants have no registry or control at all.

Well, one out of three isn't bad. I'll see how they do before I try something fancier next year.
