I am trying to do a hardy fragrant garden for the cold Northeast from Spring to Fall in front of the house. I want to be able to smell at a distance not have to walk over and stick my nose in to smell the fragrance. What I have so Far is....

SPRING..............................
Spring bulbs.
-Muscari
-Hyacinths
-Fragrant Tulips
'Apricot Beauty':
'Angelique'
'Peach Melba'
-Fragrant Daffodils:
'Geranium'
'Thalia':
'Replete':
VARIOUS Iris

BUSHES TREES FOR SPRING......................
-SAMBUCUS Black Beauty
-Lilac bush - I also picked up Bloomerange Lilac
-Mock Orange

SUMMER.....................................................

Summer Blooming Bush
SummerSweet

SUMMER BULBS..........................................
Orential Lilies
Casablanca
Stargazer

Fragrant Hostas.
Fragant Bouquet
Royal Standard
Daylilies

Where I think I am missing some fragrance is late Fall. Maybe there is not anything. But if you know of anything to add especially at that time of the year it would be a big help.

For eye candy this is blooming now and it has a nice soft sweet fragrance that wafts across the yard.

I only have one shrub that blooms into the fall and it is my shrub rose 'Milwaukee's Calatrava'. Not sure if you like roses or not, but this one sends out a fragrance around my patio. Rated hardiness to zone 5, it has only been through two winters here in southern Indiana (one very mild) and I am hoping that it is really winter hardy, because I love it. Other than that I do not know of any fragrant fall bloomers, but would definitely like to know if there are more out there.

Hi Vickie. I love roses I will look for the one you suggested.

The flower is Lily Marquee - LA Hybrid

I got it from GW. They are the most reasonable people I have found for my lily fixes. I brought this one about 6 years ago.

And HEY! So am I!

Glad I wandered in!
The only really fragrant thing I have out there so far is Casa Blanca lily.
But I'll take your list and see what will work for me here.
Also update you on what else I find that might work for you there.

crittergarden, I forgot to add

Clematis triternata Rubromarginata - It was a long bloomer. I thought it was the honeysuckle I was smelling but it had finished blooming and this clematis was blooming long after the honeysuckle finished blooming.

The thread "Clematis triternata Rubromarginata" in Clematis forum

And I forgot to mention my spring muscari.

I'm looking for a Marquee lily, because yours is so beautiful!
Except for the Casablanca I've had for years, I just started with lilies in 2011 - was stunnned (happily) at how the Asiatics multiplied.
Now I'm seeking the fragrants!

crittergarden, Gilbert Wild is the place to go for reasonable price lilies. You get 3 bulbs for a good price and the shipping is cheap. That is where I brought all my lilies. I linked it above.

Well, you're certainly right about the prices!
There weren't too many returns when I searched for "fragrant" tho.

I got more from the expensive Lilygardens.com.

Did you go to the lilies? All Oriental, LA are fragrant. Not the daylilies, look at the Liliy tab. They will have more later. You cannot beat 3 bulbs for under 9.00.

Yes, I went there.
But I'll try again later, maybe they'll have more.
