I have a friend looking to ID this plant.

I would say it is a ruellia but I'm not sure which one. Is it store bought or a wild plant and if it was wild where was it found?

Jay, a friend gave it to her from her own garden I believe.

I just googled ruellia and the petals don't seem as wrinkly.

When I first saw it I thought oleander blossom but the leaves are not right.

I'm fairly sure it is ruellia,(but I have been known to be wrong) there are many different species. I counted at least 20 different species that grow wild in the US, then there are all the created cultivars. There are only two that I find growing in Arizona and I don't believe that is either one.

Thanks Jay~ I asked her to get a better close up too. I will tell her what you said. I have a ruellia but it has much differnt blooms and leaves but with 20 species, you are probably correct!

Jay, I did a google search and this does appear to look most like it.

Very similar. One thing to check would be the hairiness. R. humilis is very hairy which I can't see in your picture. Here is some photos that I took of the one that grow here.

It doesn't look quit like the one you posted but most wild plants can be variable with different growing conditions.
