I SCORED!! Got two pots at Garland Nursery... cost an arm and a leg though. Now I hope they remain upright. On the other hand they are well worth propping up if necessary.

I couldn't believe it, especially after bringing the subject up here.

I got up early this morning and heading out Hwy 20. There was a log truck that dumped its load on the highway coming into town, just before the bridge over the Willamette. The logs were on the outside lane so I figured no problem getting back. Well when I got back they had both lanes closed and after waiting about 20 minutes I was about to drive all the way back to Corvallis to go over the bridge there. Then they opened my lane, finally.

I had nothing to do during that wait except talk to my lovely new sedums and let them about how I expect them to grow upright and not slouch. Hope they were listening Whistling .

It's good to know you had such great company during the wait. And the talk you had certainly can't hurt. Green Grin!

I'm sure looking for to Robert's Crossing again. This time I want what Greg had (whatever it was). It was yummy!

By the way, there is one Thunderhead left at Garland's. There weren't many choices offered, just this one, Autumn Joy and Chocolate Drop (wasn't very impressed with that one).

I love my Chocolate Drop. It is the darkest on out of them all, and it has shiny leaves, stays upright.

The ones at Garland's may be poor examples, in fact all of them are ones people passed over. I say this because there were so few and it is getting toward the end of the season and the best of the pots will have been sold by now.

When I was pawing over the three Thunderheads that were left, one had one stem and two had three stems. Can you guess which one I didn't buy? It would be the one that would give subsequent shoppers a poorer opinion of it. Sorry but if I am there first I pick the best for me! I did note the shiny leaves but the stems were somewhat flopped over to the point I couldn't tell which way a mature one might grow.

Mine was pitiful when I got it several years ago. Planted it and the next year it took off growing and increasing, in spite of the abuse it received.
This is one year, 2011, after I got it in 2010. I finally put it in the ground last summer in one of the raised beds. It is so happy.

This year in the sedum raised bed.

I remember seeing that photo, Lynn. That dark foliage is a nice foil next to the light green foliage.

I think you would really like that sedum, especially if you have some light colors to place it by. It would even be pretty next to your Thunderhead, nice contrast of colors and leaf forms.

It could be a week or so before I have all my plans and preparations in place, in other words, don't hold your breath! My Autumn Joy clumps are huge, I might just move the entire smaller clump to the front. Call it "instant impact"!
