Ugh! That Friday storm knocked out our power for 24 hours. It was so hot! Temp was around 100°. No one had power or phone service, except cell service. Neighbors from several houses came to our house early yesterday and we had a party atmosphere all day yesterday. We all ate fast food junk for breakfast and lunch. Everybody brought coolers of pop, water, and beer. Someone brought an inflatable kiddie pool and we were under the big maple tree, kids swimming, adults soaking their feet in the kid pool. We had fun! Power was restored around 5 p.m. We finally showered and 10 of us went out to dinner together. Our house didn't feel cool until around 10 p.m., but we were so grateful.

That's the way to do it, Karen! A mini neighborhood party sounds like a blast! Hurray!

I bet dinner out (with 10) was fun, too!

Did you get rain?

We got some with the storm. Not a whole lot, but very grateful for what we got! Another light shower early this morning, too. Severe storms possible again today. Sad

You had a party and didn't invite all of us...shame on you! Sounds like you all made the most of a bad situation. What else can you do but do the best you can..in given situation.? People are driving around trying to find gasoline and ice..only the worst intersections have traffic signals working..everybody has been told to treat all intersections that don't have working signals as a 4 way stop sign..Our Associate Pastor mentioned today that he drove 30-35 miles for ice yesterday. The BSA leader came up and told him he had a cooler full of ice, would he be interested. We had services because this was Communion Sunday plus the 59 people that were in Wayne County, WVA for ASP mission trip returned today and gave their testimonies of how they helped, etc. The last service they got 2 box fans and ran them by generator..We got there at end of first service and was able to take communion at that service. Stayed about 30 minutes or more to hear the testimonies of the kids and adults and even with the two fans close by us, DH was really minding the heat so we slipped out. We'd already had given our church evelope when we took communion.

Friday night during the storm we rec'd 2 in. of rainfall in the rain gauge, we need a lot more. I just watered the plants that mean the most to me by sprinkling can..I saw the blackberry lily bloom for first time. Gosh, that is a small bloom but colorful. I have blooms on two of my tall garden phlox my church friend gave me a few years ago..I feel I have hit the jackpot seeing those bloom finally. More glads blooming from that Big Lot buy 2 yrs. ago. These two had blooms that were lavender and white..not the dark burgundy/fuchia color as the ones in the back flowerbeds.I think I also saw cherry brandy rudbeckia is about ready to pop a bloom..planted next to Liatris and Becky shastas, they are almost hidden.
