The buds on one of my 5 yr old seedling clumps has this burn looking mark on them. Any idea what it is?

I'm seeing that on some of mine too. Have never ever seen anything like it before.

I'm wondering if it actually is a burn mark. We have had several days 95-98 degrees. I had moved this seedling from the north side of the garage to a more exposed area with direct sun in the morning. Maybe the change in location made it tempermental and susceptible to sunburn?

I'm seeing it too, and have never seen it before. It's only on the daylilies that are in full sun all day. I've got others that are in part sun/shade, and there is nothing on them like this. I sure hope someone can tell us what it is.

Wonder if the sunspot thingy has anything to do with it???

There is talk of this on the AHS email robin as well in various areas. I've noticed it here on some as well. Could be the solar activity stuff that's causing it, who knows.

Do you think that might be the problem?

Woofie, I think you may be right, at least in my case. All of mine that have this are darker colors. One is Stutter's Ball, and another is a dark red one that I can't recall the name of off the top of my head. I'd go look, but I'd melt! It's blazing hot today! There were a couple more that have it too, and I'm positive that they are darker ones.

Thanks so much for that information. I better move some of these in the fall. The daylilies that I have in part sun/shade do much better than those in full sun anyway. I just need to dig up more grass to make room!

Well, I'm not sure if they mean that the buds will burn, or that the opened flowers will burn. There weren't any photo examples there. And it sounds like other people are having similar problems elsewhere, so maybe it really IS sunspots! (I love to blame everything on sunspots... )
