Planted one plant a few years back as a novelty but it produces enough beans to roast one full pot a year. This past year we didn't roast the cherries but saved them and then planted. I kept the cups watered and moist and in about three weeks.....EUREKA!!!!

Oh, how fun! And how amusing and appropriate that you planted the seeds in little styrofoam coffee cups........... Green Grin!

It is so fun... I took these last year when we roasted our one pot!! Takes about 30 minutes on high in a teflon coated pot to roast.
You peel the red skin off and let dry for a day or so... then they are ready to roast!

Is this plant in the ground or pot grown?

My son is a coffee fanatic and has made his own roaster out of a rotisserie for a grill . It would be great if he could grow his own beans , but we are zone 5 .
I can grow figs in pots by bringing them inside for the winter I wonder if I could do the same for coffee??

It is in the ground and it gets rather large....... they can be trimmed but it can't do frost or cold that well. In fact if you look at the picture posted above you will notice not a lot of leaves, we had had one cold snap and the plant dropped its leaves, thought it was toast, but the blooms came in mass...

I have two coffee plants that I have been growing inside for about 4 years. I heard that it takes 7 years before they produce - is that true. They are handsome plants and require lots and lots of water!

I would say 7 years is about right... in Hawaii they keep them trimmed so they can easily pick the cherries (4 feet)... unabated they can get 12 feet and Iv'e seen some that are more in the 15 foot range... a small tree.... they can live 50-60 years I've read.

No, no, Allison, you didn't kill the coffee plant, you merely allowed it to "self-euthanize." Hilarious!
