8 fires going on all at once here in Colorado. This is super bad. On a scale of 1-6, with 1 being the least worrisome to 6 being the most extremely dangerous situation possible, today was a "super 6". The high here in Denver was 103 (I was out in it.. it was miserable), humidity was sitting at like 5%, gusty winds, no moisture in sight...



This shot was taken a little bit ago from a Redditor in Colorado Springs. This fire is on the extreme western edge of Colorado Springs near where my in-laws used to live & bestiefriend-in-the-whole-world used to live (thankfully he no longer lives in the Springs but here in the Dmetro). The internationally known Garden of the Gods (http://gardenofgods.com/home/i...) has been evacuated due to the fire roaring towards it. The High Park fire is the most devastating fire in Colorado history, and, at this rate, might surpass the Hayman fire back in '02.

We need rain. Desperately. Anyone want to FedEx some moisture? We here watch the flooding in Minnesota and just cry.. all that water wasted where we could definitely use it here.

Here, too, a wish that the monsoons arrive soon to bring some refreshment to the southwest. We've had but a half inch of rain since mid-March.

Well, this morning I wasn't too worried. Now I am. There's a fire out on the plains not too terribly far from me, about 40 miles or so, near the teeny town of Elbert. But that's to my east and the wind never blows from east to west. If it does, we're screwed. No idea on how it started.

Caught this picture last night. This is actually smoke from the High Park fire, which is about 2.5 hours north of me. I got this picture about 1/2 mile from home (I live in the "Cottonwood District" of my town)

A bit of smoke in the atmosphere makes for pretty sunset colors, sometimes.

I *know* intimately where it's burning. My inlaws lived there until 4 years ago exactly where is burning right now. My best friend used to live there until March. Exactly where it is burning

I'm not going to try & put a political spin on this, but I have to for a minute. I don't really care what politics you follow, if you're Republican or Democrat or if you vote for little green Martians. But the fact that we cannot call up our National Guard because they're stationed all over the world rather than being HERE, where WE U.S. CITIZENS NEED THEM, then this is what happens. Plus ColoSpgs is so anti-tax, they don't have the resources to fight an inferno of this magnitude.

I am with you Toni . I was saying the same thing this morning watching the news. When WE NEED
the National Guard they are not here to help. I have a National Guard base in our town . And a bunch
of men shipped out last week. WISH they were headed to Colorado

Shannon - I try to stay out of political discussions as it just makes for everyone being pissed off. But we need our people HERE. I'm a firm believer of take care of your own, always have been. If someone doesn't like me, fine, that's their choice. However, when shit hits the fan, don't expect me to be all warm & fuzzy & help you out 'cuz I ain't gonna if you treated me like dirt. I'm just that kind of rotten person. You help me, I help you. Personally speaking, I can't stand the Springs. Most of the people there have an opinion of themselves that they're way better than anyone else because they live in Colorado Springs and God Loves Them. Bah. I don't care what their religion is, but any religion that tells me that if I don't worship THEIR way then I'm gonna burn in hell.. I can't tell you how many times I've been told that I'm gonna burn in hell 'cuz I don't attend this, that, or the other church. And there are SOOOOOO many churches in the Springs.. I think it's like 1 church for every 200 people.. and ColoSpgs has like 325,000 people! All those churches are there for 1 major reason: taxes. Tons & tons of people convert a room in their house into a place of worship so they don't have to pay property taxes. Sorry if I'm sounding very anti-religion, but this is the facts there in the Spgs. I work with the county government (I work with county & state-level governments as part of my job) and I know where they put their money - and it's not into infrastructure, either.

my heart is breaking for you Toni! I can't believe the heat right now and what is predicted. You are always in my thoughts and I watch all the coverage and do cry real tears for you.

mine too. i know what it feels like to have your heart in your throat over fires you know only rain will squelch. and last year when pennsylvania was flooding it just seemed like such a mad joke when texas was burning up. and those poor people had no where to go either.

My prayers and my heart goes out to you all. May God almighty brings forth the rains needed to quench this fire. But if he doesn't, Still thank God for that also.
I agree that our boys should be here where thay are needed to help out us. We need to stick together during these times of troubles. I give to my local church and they do sometimes go out and help people in need. I will have to find out if they plan to help out all the fire victims.
Also to be saved all one has to do is know God, have a personal relationship with him and let no person or church or anything stand between you and God. The rest is in his hands, trust him.
