Here is a great way to re-purpose that old wobbly step ladder that no longer is safe to use.

That's a great idea Lynn! I've seen ladders used a plant stands, but I've never seen one actually planted.

I saw it at yard sale. She had sempervivum planted in it. I couldn't wait to get home and try it on a ladder I found at the next yard sale. It was so quick and easy to do.
Now I am going to do the two taller ladders shown in one of the photos. I've had them for years. I'm going to plant different kinds of sedum on one of them.

Thank you Maridell.

It sure would be fun to see how others would plant their ladders. Do you have a ladder that is no longer safe to use? What would you plant if you decided to do one?

I'm very glad I opened this up to get a better look at your ladder, Lynn!

Now I can see you have written a very good tutorial with great pictures. My fault for thinking it was a "tip." Shrug!

Glad you opened it Christine. Do you have a ladder you can use for this project?

I am getting ready to do another one that will just have different types of low growing sedum. Some will cascade.

No I don't but I'll be looking for for a nice old wooden one like yours. I really like it.

It's perfect for cascading plants too! Thumbs up

I've seen others use ladders for their plants, but like your idea the best. I haven't seen any around our area, but when I do I'll be sure to grab it up.

Hi Pegi. Hope you come across some old ladders. Now that you are looking for them you will see them every where. Thumbs up

Hurray! Christine I can't even begin to tell you how exciting it was. I felt like I could hear all the laughing and squealing going on. Those acorns were flying. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
I'm sure there are ladders just waiting at the next yard sale. We just never noticed them before, just like Pegi said.

I think I'll start taking my camera yard sale-ing. Green Grin!

Great! Would love to see them.... when I look at the ladder pics, I want to use the entire stretch between front and back as a planting space. Have you tried that? And have you used a ladder as a trellis for a vine?

I actually have two tall ladders, like picking ladders, that I will be using that way.
I had not thought about making the planting area go from front to back. That is a great idea Mary. I will give that a try with the next small step ladder. Thumbs up
