Hi.

It was just plain too hot outside yesterday to do any kind of work, or even sit in the shade with a tall glass of ice-cold lemonade. After 10 minutes, I was wet from head to toes and had to seek refuge inside. I will now make a pot of coffee and go sit outside before the sun rises. I also need to water my philodendrons under the car port. After that, I guess I'll hole up in the house.

Take care, all.
Sylvain.

Good morning to you all!

Here is what I ended up doing yesterday. Not as much as I wanted to do, but at least a bit to calm my gardening obsessions. Hilarious!

I re-potted my mom's adenium, I did very well for a week, and even opened a flower. Lovey dubby

Of course, once the buds are spent, I'm also trimming that branch, just to give it more balance. I got a nice low profile clay pot for it at Home Depot, about $4.

I also re-potted my newest addition from yesterday. I used a plastic low profile container. I love clay pots, but I guess plastic will be more durable. We will see.

After the storm rehearsal we had last week, I had placed my plants to safety and today I'm putting everything back in its proper place. For the most part, not so bad.

Here is a pic of my adenium babies:

Thumb of 2012-09-01/MamaIve12/f7b3ce

All are doing pretty well, except one that lost all the leaves. I don't know what to make of that. However, the trunk is strong and not showing signs of rot.

Also, I hard pruned about four of my established adeniums. The leaves were in such a sorry state, and some of them were too leggy. I don't know. It didn't loo aesthetically pleasant. Truth be told, I HATED the fact that I've been trying to get the pests off the leaves and with the high humidity brought by the rain, I've been failing miserably. So... OFF WITH THE STEMS!

I'm just showing one. The others are pretty bare. Hilarious!

Baby Giant... Thanks to ChefMike

For the storm I moved them into the sun room, closed the AC vent and they were in for three days before returning to their spots out doors but they are dropping leaves like crazy...

I left my adeniums outside while Isaac's outer bands went through our area. We were well outside the error cone, but we still got plenty of wind and rain falling horizontally. I didn't bring the adeniums in. They weathered the whole thing outside. They didn't take to that very well. Most of the leaves fell off. Is there anything uglier than a defoliated adenium? But, I tell myself that this is not the first my babies dropped all their leaves, so I'll keep on caring for them. The new leaves and new blooms will come back. It's just a matter of time.

I have come to the conclusion that, given half a chance, adeniums will make you cry.

Take care, everyone.
Sylvain.

So... I sheltered mine, you left yours outside, and still, the same outcome. Adeniums are indeed very temperamental. Hilarious!

It has happened to me befor and they generaly pull out of it but i have sunburnt them by putting right back to full sun with so very few leaves

Smiling This is what is going on in my backyard today. It's a gorgeous day, but so hot it's not even funny!

These are two of the adeniums I chopped last week.

'Running man' is now full of leaves! Can't wait till it blooms again. Smiling

Thumb of 2012-09-08/MamaIve12/248f5a

And finally, two of the seedlings I got from Mike. One lost its leaves after all that moving around due to the heavy rains, but they're doing quite well!

Yesterday I updated how my plummies are doing, and now it's time for my adeniums. :)

A mixed bag...

This is the double flower one that I had purchased at Isaac Farms. I hung it for a few weeks, but I finally cut off the top part, since it was gone without possibility of recovering, and gave it a new planter, so God knows what actual flower is going to come out now. It has a healthy caudex, though.

Thumb of 2012-10-26/MamaIve12/b08a2e

Two of my babies (plus a reed stem orchid- Smiling ). They've lost leaves due to mold. Rainy season has been bad, but they seem to be recovering.

This one is definitively mad at me, but at least the caudex is healthy! Sticking tongue out I am thinking of cutting of the branches...

Thumb of 2012-10-26/MamaIve12/8f38e0

My outside adeniums, those that I cut off branches several weeks ago, are doing well and look pretty. A couple are forming buds. Lovey dubby

Well, there you go. Good thing adeniums are resilient!

What a mob! Looks like you're having an interesting and fun time, and that's what counts.

The one that you lost the top, that one little sprout kind of looks like it might be from below the graft. Or was it grafted? I'm getting double blooms from seed now-a-days. Post when it blooms!

Also, I'm getting all sorts of flowers from sneaky limbs that grow from the rootstock.

Hi Melissa!

I am having fun, although it's been frustrating dealing with the mold. And of course, rain keeps coming.

Yes, that little sprout is from under the graft. The graft was definitively lost. Crying

That's why I don't know what kind of flower I will get once it recovers.
