I recently ran across a Hosta with two names in a single cultivar field. I don't remember which one but it was entered as name one (aka name two). After correcting that entry I searched "aka" and I believe I corrected all of the entries which listed two names on one line. By and large what we had was cv. names and Trade names. There were hundreds of names with aka in them (often Japanese names) but just a few with aka meaning "Also Known As".

Given that we have fields for more than one cv. name plus the Trade Name field, I'm thinking we shouldn't be using "aka". Does this agree with everyone's understanding of the system?

If the above is correct:
1. Could adding aka to the cultivar or trade name fields prompt a message to display noting only one name per field?

Please note I think I also saw names displayed as name one aka name two as well. Maybe with a comma too.

Yes, Evan, your understanding of the system matches my understanding. There's no reason for a name and an aka name on the same line when it's possible to enter more than one cultivar name and give the main one a thumbs-up in case it wasn't the first one listed.

I need to go through the sempervivum database and see if we have any with more than one name.

Good thinking, Evan. I have updated the "Add a plant" page to stop you with a warning if you try to add a plant with " AKA " in the name of it. I will also update the "Edit plant name" page to do the same thing.
