Well it's starting to become interesting..as things settle in to the world outside.. a few are blooming now.. and lots of buds to go...
I did get a solar brug flower.. which I lashed to a limb.. nice purple bloom on this brug... maybe it's a purple wish flower..

I don't have a GReAT picture of it yet.. but not because the flush so far hasn't been great.. but I've got to spend the time to to capture it at it's best... as it's just beginning to flower heavily.. and so young and small... so for this I'd like to thank JT for developing and releasing to the brug world one of the strongest growing [ OH.. such a relief to have one so hardy ] brug... nice big leaves.. and plenty of flowers of a very large size... and a knock out strong fragerance..for this and and a seemingly heat resistant plant...
Thanks JT for Karoline.. [ named for his lovely granddaughter so you know it's very special ]

Nice, Gordon. My brugs look pretty sad. Hellish wind for about a week, now it's been beastly hot. *sigh*. I'm feeding and watering and I gave a dose of epsom salts about 3 weeks ago and I have some buds, but not like a "normal" year with "normal" weather and "normal" rainfall.

My Brugs are suffering also, temp. in the 100s every day no rain for a month and none in sight, we had thunder last night and I sure prayed it would rain but no such thing, it is 7:45 AM and already 86
What does Epsom Salts do for the plant ?

The magnesium promotes blooming. At least that is what I was told

Magnesium is necessary for the production of chlorophyll. In a sense it promotes blooming in plants that are in the flowering growth cycle because the more the Brug "Y"s, the more flower buds it produces. However, if you use a complete fertilizer complete with micro-nutrients, the plant will get all the magnesium it needs. If the leaves are pale or yellowish and a dose of fertilize doesn't green the leaves, before you add anything else including epsom salts, test the soil pH first. It is possible that nutrients are not being taken up because the pH is too high or too low — either way on the pH scale inhibits the roots from taking up those essential nutrients. It is possible to give plants too much magnesium which might show up as symptoms of calcium or potassium deficiency. Epsom salt is a salt and too much of any salt can damage roots.

While magnesium is needed by plants, it is not needed in large quantities. If the plants are in the ground, there is usually enough magnesium in the soil to provide what plants need, that is, unless there is a pH problem. If the plants are growing in pots, then a complete fertilizer should be able to provide the plant with all the magnesium it needs. Again, unless there is a pH problem.

This is an article on hydrangeas, but the principles apply to all plants:
