The Epi I have hanging out under the oak tree seems to be doing better than the mother plant that is in the OC. Go figure!

Congratulations, Ursula!
Loving all the July blooms I've seen so far!
A week of 80s prompted a couple to flower here, but now we're back in low 70s.Thumb of 2012-07-06/ctcarol/7ba81d Laelia pacavia only gave me two spikes this year
Thumb of 2012-07-06/ctcarol/82140e Blc.' Erin Kobayashi' X 'Stono river' has only one spike

Carol, very impressive Gongora! It's just beautiful. I also like the Laelia for its color and form. Beautiful show.

Now at the risk of killing Ursula, here is Blc Golden Tang which just opened last night.

Here is a first bloom - Epy Serena O'Neill 'Hawai'. It's a fairly small plant.

And here is a Neofinetia falcata/ Furan. This one is the regular Neofinetia falcata, not a fancy variety.

This needle leaf Neofinetia falcata has never bloomed for me, but I like the plant. I moved it bare root to a thick clay pot a month ago and the roots are already attached. Neat growth!

All beautiful, Jim!
Ursula , that Darwinara is always one of my favorites!
I thank you all for the compliments. Our yo-yo weather is not what orchids thrive in, but at least they are blooming, if not show quality. While the "chids" may not like the weather, I'm happy I'm not suffering with you east coast dwellers.
I hope the Neofineta falcata that I got in a trade will bloom under my care. It's in a wooden basket with bright light, and gets daily water. It looks healthy, so far, but it's still pretty small.

That will be wonderful, Ursula. That big Neo of yours is truly magnificent, and I'll bet it smells divine, too.

I think I may have a casualty from TS Debby's rains - this is my little variegated Phal I've had for 3 years. It has been fussy and not really healthy for as long as I've had it, and now, since it was on a mount I left it out in the rain for the 4 days' deluge we got. Figured you can't really overwater an orchid on a mount. Hm, maybe that wasn't right? Yesterday morning found this big squishy soft spot near the base of the newest leaf. Today it is turning black but drying out, too. I sprayed the leaf on both sides with Bayer 3-in-1 and have quarantined it. Any thoughts, my friendly experts?

On a further note of nature taking its course, the lovely cork mount that has my NoID brassavola on it is "leaking" sawdust from the bottom of it! I think I have carpenter ants at work in there. I've just had it too good for too long, nature is taking me down a peg, I'm thinkin!

Elaine, that looks like Bacterial Soft Rot ( Erwinia chrysanthemi). High temps and lots of moisture is where it thrives. If it reaches the crown, it will girdle and kill the plant. Splashing water or infected tools will move it from spot to spot. I would get rid of that leaf and use systemic fungicides. By all means, isolate the plant.

Bree, I'll try to get another picture.

Ursula, I love the Epi 'Hawai'. The Neos and the Darwinara are nice as well. You've made a nice recovery. Hilarious!

Thanks all! Smiling

Yes, I am upright now! Big Grin

Elaine, I lose almost every Phal if I keep it outside over the Summer. Even tilting the plant so that water will not collect in the crown doesn't always help. One time a leaf turned overnight into that watery smelly slush, I could have sworn a Squirrel had peed on it. I cut out the affected mess and was able to grow that plant a few more years.
About that sawdust - how about submerging the plant/mount in water?

))Big sigh(( Thanks Jim. Have found the coolest, driest place for the little sickie. Propped the leaves apart with popsicle sticks so the air can get in between and dry them. Now we can only hope.

Last pic of my yellow NoID with 5 flowers - minutes later the one on the left dropped off.
