I should stress that I am absolutely no expert in growing Disas. We have however observed Disa cornuta in its habitat on the most Southern tip of Africa and we have visited the area around Cape town which is home to Disa uniflora, always mentioned in write ups about Disas
http://orchids-international.b...

Here we are at the end of October in 2007 ( Spring ) at the Cape of Good Hope

The vegetation around this area is called Fynbos, consisting of low growing plants and shrubs

We were attracted by the really white, beautiful blooms amongst the vegetation and started to explore the area.

Imagine our excitement when we ( actually Klaus) found a Disa which we hopefully identified correctly later as cornuta.

Table mountain is always mentioned as a major Disa habitat. We took the cable car to the top and were able to observe the vegetation along the ride. Again, lots of Fynbos, with blooming Proteas and Geraniums/lots of low shrubs and plenty of Lichen

If you feel like seeing more of Cape town and vicinity and the famous Kirstenbosch Garden, here is my link. The contact sheet is not linked, but should give you an idea what these pictures are about.

Good!
I was hoping that it helps just a bit to get a feeling for the habitat, although I can't really send the feeling of the climate. One could perhaps imagine the fairly moist location near the Ocean and also the perfect drainage on Table mountain.

My unicum seeds, which are not germinating, were from Table Mountain!

Oh thanks Ursula. I have been watering from above and fertilizing from below as per Glenn Decker but I lost one leaf so I will only water from below. They like cold water not lukewarm though. BTW I am about to scrap my seed project. No sign of propagation so I'm out $8.
