The trip to the lake sounds wonderful. The oriental lily is a realy beauty. I surely wish I could grow lilies here but the voles eat all the bulbs. I am having a horrible time this year with both voles and moles. The voles even ate most of my potatoes before I could dig them! #%*^%#* Angry Angry

Cindy, love the lake photos, the lily is beautiful, and the pic
of Larger than LIfe is the best I've seen.

Ann, we are having a time with the voles and moles too. I thought I
had my best plants in a brick lined bed that they wouldn't find, but
lo and behold, they did. Aggravating critters. I can't grow lilies either,
unless I try to hide them from the critters. Grumbling

Rita, you are going to have to try some potatoes. Sooooo much better
than store bought, and you, with the green thumb, wouldn't have to grow
many to get all you need for winter. Green Grin!

I don't know how to grow potatoes. I did read something about "hilling". I do know enough that potaotes grow in the ground, not above on the plant. I am sure I could learn if I tried but well will see. The veggie garden is expanding next year.

I have 12 hills of potatoes this year. As the vines grow you just keep piling more dirt to cover the vines. The more vines that are covered with dirt, the more potatoes you will get. Last summer I planted a couple of potato eyes in some large buckets. I got about 8 potatoes from each bucket. You could do that Rita, very simple.

That's hilarious, Rita. Just cut them with two eyes to the piece, two pieces
to the hole, then cover with soil. When they come up, pull the soil up around
them into a small hill, with some granular fertilize mixed in. They do the rest.
