I am a real non tech in this discussion as well as being fairly new to the site.

1. My biggest concern in using the database is being able to find the plant by any name so I can identify and add to the database both the site db and my own db also to view the pictures of a specific plant.

2. Consistency is important. --- I would think there is a problem that some Sempervivum are under Sempervivum some are under hens and chicks. It would seem that a global search should find the plant whatever term is used. latin or cultivar

Earlier today I had to go in and do a browse within all sempervivums (hens and chicks) in order to find Raspberry Ice.

3. It would seem to me, the moderator should have a set of standards by which they choose the accepted or preferred Botanical name, whether it use of an industry preferred document or a best practice online site.

Just my off the cuff thoughts.

A search for "Sempervivum Raspberry Ice" would have saved you a lot of time.

http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Even if you had just searched for "Raspberry Ice," it would have been the fourth on the list of possibles:

My personal favorite, though, is to search alphabetically when I know the genus, so that minor variations in spelling don't lead me down the wrong path. If you go to the Sempervivum genus and click on "R," you'll find that Raspberry Ice is the third item on that page:

Zuzu, I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.
Thanks, perhaps I misspelled it. And I had never noticed the alphabet at the top of the page, I went back and found it easily. Obviously it cannot be programmed to find misspellings.

And I am never sure whether I should search, as I do not always know the genus, Semps, Jovis or Hueffls etc..

Thanks you for that brief tutorial, I think it will help me find things more easily.

Another way to search is using just part of the name.
Sempervvivum raspb will even get that entry for you. Or sempervivum ice will bring it up. Thumbs up
