Just recently on one of the threads, I was explaining how to do chain printing....but I left out an important step.

I discovered this when my batteries ran out and had to replace them. It must have reset something in the setup. When I went to print labels there was a huge gap between the labels! I was really surprised, and I didn't remember how to do the setup for chain printing. The instructions that I gave are still correct...after you have the "chain printing " set up! D'Oh! *Blush*

I had to go to the Brother support website. I just put in my model number. (Not the Brother website...it offers no help, that I could find anyway.) Here it is in case you want more help. https://support.brother.com

If you have the PT-D210:

1. Press the Label key

2. Press the arrow (cursor) key until Margin is displayed

3.Press the OK key

4. Press the arrow(cursor) key until Narrow is displayed.

5. Press the OK key

Then you are ready to go. To feed the tape correctly, the printer will automatically set a wider left margin for the first label only.

1. Enter the text to be printed

2. To print for the PT-D210, press the Print key, and number of copies, if needed.

3. When the message Feed OK appears after those labels are printed, if you want to print more, then you press the Esc key, then go to backspace your last label, and then type in your new one. Continue this course of action after you print each label, ("Print") , "Feed OK", "Esc", "Backspace", then when you have printed your last label and you get, "Feed OK", press the "OK" key. Then press the cutter when all the labels are out, it will say, Please Cut

If you have a different model than mine, you may use the link to the Brother support website. There will be a place to enter your model number on there.

I hope this helps! Smiling

You're welcome, Evelyn! I don't have one of those units, but am keeping it in mind if I ever want to make my own labels, and can appreciate someone taking the time to outline the steps for a task like this.

Joshua ~ How kind you are. When I first got this label maker, it was confusing. I felt the instructions were not entirely clear. At first the print came out too small. Then the wide spaces between the labels. It took a while to figure it out, even with the instructions.

If anyone can avoid the frustration that I encountered, then it it was worth the time to share these tips.

I like to use the enter command to begin a new line of lettering below the iris name in order to also show the vendor's name and date acquired. Two line printing. I'm wondering how large a print size I can choose with the 12 mm tape, and still get two line printing.

Daisy ~ I don't know. I once tried putting two lines on the labels and it was too hard for me to read easily.

I keep all that information in a notebook, and just put the name of the iris on there.

Another alternative would be to make two labels. One for the name and another for other information that you want. Some like to put the hybridizer's name and year of introduction.

Yes, I have noticed that two line printing is exceedingly difficult to preview. The preview just is too tiny to read. I think that P Touch needs to make some improvements in that regard, and in ease of use. A lot of things, such as the chain printing sequence are simply not intuitive.

Brother was some work to do on the P Touch!

I know this is an old thread, but I am going to revive it, because today I took delivery on a new P-touch label maker. It's model D610BT, and it accomodates the 1" wide fade resistant Tze tape. With the old one, I either had to print out two label tapes for each plant marker (one for cultivar name, and one for vendor name and date planted) or try to print out both lines on one narrow tape. Doing two strips wasted a lot more tape because I never got the hang of chain printing. Doing just one strip with two lines of print made the print so small that with my aging eyes I have to get down on hands and knees to read a finished label.

This new labelmaker doesn't waste as much tape at the beginning and end of a strip. I can print two very easy-to-read lines of print on the 1" wide strip, with nice centering alignment and an elegant frame. The labelmaker keyboard is also more like a standard keyboard, making numbers and punctuation much easier to do. The functions also include some very nice features for special templates, or savng a format just the way you want.

I have decided I like the black enameled Startostar garden markers very much, and they have a face large enough to accommodate the 1" tape. I like black because it is not as obtrusive in the landscape. So I got the black label tape with white print. Even though the markers are less obtrusive, they are quite easy to read. In optometry school we were taught that for people with impaired vision, white print on black is easier to read than the usual black on white.

@evelyninthegarden this is the labelmaker to get!

You're welcome, Daphne! When you get yours, just spend some time as I did this evening, reading the usage instructions, and formatting it. That way now each time I use it, the labels will always look the way I want with no additional formatting effort. Then, between labels, "clear" the text only, NOT both text and formatting.
