July 5, 2012 Drought wreaks havoc in the Hoosier state

It's not just hot and dry. It's so hot and dry there are farmers in southwest Indiana that have already plowed under fields because their corn was dying, and more may follow suit. It's so hot and dry that livestock feed prices are skyrocketing to record levels, triggering what will likely be higher meat prices for consumers.

It's so hot and dry that wood-boring insects are lethally feasting on water-starved trees, even those that have been around for decades. It's so hot and dry that using a water sprinkler on your lawn may be a wasted effort since your grass may already be dead, not just dormant.

It's so hot and dry that we should probably be hoping for a hurricane.

"It's bad to say it, but that's what we need," said Austin Pearson, a research assistant at the Indiana State Climate Office at Purdue University. "We need a hurricane or tropical storm to come up through the Gulf of Mexico, through the eastern half of Texas and ride up through the Midwest."

Bringing with it, of course, a big, soaking rain that would last several days to compensate for months of little more than spit.

Oh my, how horrible. I am so sad for all of you, I read the news from the US and it is really dire. Hard to imagine wishing for a hurricane, maybe just a tropical storm OK? I really hope there is a good answer to all this. Group hug

Well I have given up on all my garden flowers and my lawn,it is a lost cause,I have moved some of my adeniums into the house as they were getting burned, I am beginning to feel that trying to water is making it worse, it seems to make the sun burn more, I just pray it will come to an end soon, but no rain in sight for the next 5 days

Well beans will be next, no way can they make it with no rain it was the last of May when we had a light rain, now they say our grass will not survive either, that it is dead not dormant, unle4ss we get rain in the next few days, and there is none in sight.it seems we are all, in one way or anothere in the middle of a catastrophy.

Did any one stop to think that this is GODS answer to taking his name out of everything Sad

I believe that too many folks think 'dominion' means dominate, rather than home, domicile.
