Michele,
Click and ship on USPS.com is what I have been using for years now for packages, just not for envelopes. I just don't feel like doing all that taping of the labels on the envelopes. It is easy to use though.

Did you give them a squeeze to see how soft they are. If they squish or pop between your fingers when squeezed then they are no good. If they are just a little soft then they should be fine to either dry or plant. Some seeds will be hard as a rock while others are a little soft to the touch. If you are going to store them for a bit before planting then remember once they dry they may stay plump or they may shrivel up like a raisin and even some shrivel up to almost nothing. They are all still good they just dry differently.

Now to answer your questions
It just depends on what you are planning to do with them. Are you going to plant them right away or are you planting them later?

If planting later, what most people do is dry 24-48 hrs then put in little plastic baggies (get in craft section at Walmart or other store) until ready to plant. I have heard of people storing them in regular coin envelopes. Then there are various ways to germinate them such as damp paper towel, in baggie with peroxide/water mix in fridge, on the rocks, and so on.

If I'm planting right away I just take them from pod and plant in my seed trays. If they have been in fridge I do not germinate first I go ahead and plant in seed trays.

It's just a matter of preference on how you do it.

Can they sit until next spring or this winter ? I'd rather have them wait if they will. They are not squishey soft they are a little hard
when you squeeze them. Should be good then Smiling

Once they sit for say two days pack them in a little brown envelope or plastic baggie ? Do I put put papertowels in with both ?

Thanks alot for your help Michele

I would most definitely put a piece of paper towel in the little plastic baggie because condensation does tend to occur inside. I don't now what people put in the brown envelopes (I just read somewhere that they use them because they had them lying around). The plastic baggies would more than likely be cheaper and easier to get.

Yes they can sit until next spring or this winter. Most people just keep them in the fridge until ready to plant. I have heard someone say (can't remember where) that they just put them in the envelopes (might be same person as above) and stored them in a closet where it was cool (this is called dry storage) and they were just fine when they planted them.

Oh by the way, I mailed your seeds today

I store mine dry in the fridge all winter. I put them in paper envelopes. I use up all the postage paid return envelopes I get from all the junk mail offers I get Sticking tongue out They are free. Then in the spring I just straight sow them into my seed bed in rows. I do it this way since if I started them in trays inside the Kitties would think they were salad Hilarious! Most of the time I have good germination. This year I got them in late due to the crazy wet cool April we had. Poor germination since it was too cool and wet. That or they rotted in the ground due to the cool/wet. Some Years I plant a few more in Early-mid July. I haven't yet this year since it has been so bloody hot and dry. If We start getting more rain I may just plant a bunch more.

Michele, Thanks for mentioning the water/peroxide mix. I keep forgetting to ask - what is the ratio on that? I tried finding it on the web, but too many pages came up, and after 1/2 hour, I got tired of looking and thought I'd just ask instead. I've never tried it, but I keep meaning to since I am always hearing that it helps with germination.

I may not get one pod on Mapping Pennsylvania this year. Last year I heavily pollinated it and it produced tons of pods for me. I guess MP decided not gonna happen this year. Every flower that has opened so far, and their have been at least 10, have no stigmas. You can't pollinate without a stigma, at least I don't think you can.

Natalie the ratio that most people use is 10 parts water to 1 part peroxide.

My first pod this year was about 2 weeks ago. It was huge and looked like it would give me great seeds. I got ONE ! Have also had a lot of aborted ones. I did crack open some of these and got 3 very nice looking seeds from them despite the fact that the pods were hard and brown. Today I got 8 seeds from one pod, best yet this year. Still have 20 pods or so to go, I don't do it to sell, just for me right now. The heat has been really bad on the flowers this year. Daylilies cooking in the pods!

This is still my worst year for daylilies, and the seed production is
not very good either. Maybe better results with the later ones to
mature. I think they cooked in the high temps and very dry
conditions.

A friend who lives near by pollinated hundreds of flowers and has 9 pods.

It has been a bad year for setting pods here as well. I have plenty to harvest but not nearly what should be, that may be a blessing. But then again this has been a strange year because we have daylilies setting that have never set before and the pod studs are pod duds this year.
