Dave is there anyway we can add a species check box to these plants so a search can be done for species only?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for. You can search for species right now by just using the regular text search...

If I type in sempervivum species it doesn't give me anything.
And there is no place to choose species in the search characteristics in the parent plant.

I'm sorry Lynn, I'm just confused here.

Are you searching for the actual word "species"?

Yes, to do a search for those that are strickly species, not hybrids.

But Lynn, those are so easy to find without using search. The ones that are strictly species are in the beginning of the listings, on the first two pages in the case of Sempervivum:

Am I misunderstanding what you want?

Some of the species aren't in the first pages, as they do have a cultivar name but are actually a named species. A species named after the person that discovered it, etc.

Lynn, I think I understand what you'd like to do: Find all Sempervivum that have a species, with or without a cultivar name. So Sempervivum marmoreum would show up with Sempervivum marmoreum from Kanzan Gorge, S. m. 'Brunneifolium', S. m. var. dinaricum, etc. even though the cultivars are mixed in with the hybrids.

If that's correct, it's not possible to do now without a special "Dave search".

When you queried for Sempervivum species, the system actually looked for the word "species" and didn't find one. That's why you got no return on your search investment Sad .

That's it Monica.
Dave is there a way to make that happen?

Maybe a new field within the data entry to click that it is a species? Then species could be in the custom search?

We do have a check mark box in sempervivum for 'Cultivar'
