Hi all and thanks first off for being such an active and vibrant community! I'm usually pretty adept at IDing my own plants but i'm lost with where to start on this one and could really use some help. I got this pot and another at a garage sale for 3$ and they started my succulent addiction found two of these so far while 'weeding' the prolific red sedum down to size.

Is it the circular 'pod' with seeds you want to know about? That is the seed pod of Cyclamen, you must have a corm in the pot too! They open up and spill their seeds around, some have already come out.

Thanks! and so quick too This is the pot, wonder if cyclamen grows ok with sedum and sempervivum but seeing as i can't find any actual leaves of it maybe not. Time to save seeds and see if they lead to a new addiction. i'm surprised the plant must have flowered at some point under that mat of sedum!

It depends on which Cyclamen it is, C. coum would flower over winter and C. hederifolium in the autumn and both should be hardy where you are. Both loose their leaves going dormant in summer. It might be a florists Cyclamen, some of those do make seed too. If left in a pot in a wet very cold winter it could rot if it is a hardy one, (also if it's a florist's cyclamen which is not hardy) they need to be in a free draining soil preferably with lots of leafy compost, in the ground with some shade.

They are easily grown from seed, you should sow them straight away and keep them in a dark place until they sprout, sow very near the surface with only a light covering and keep moist but not too wet. They will form tiny corms on the surface with a fine tap root.

That was exactly the information I needed to find next thanks! I cleared the sedum off completely between the two seed pods so I can see what comes up, and just collected the seeds and will post a picture! This is my first time getting a plant ID so should I close this thread or wait until I can post a picture of the flowers (hopefully)?

You can close the thread now as you know at least that the pod belongs to Cyclamen. When or if you get flowers you can start another thread.

The other seed pod is not mature, it might not make it but you have plenty of seeds from the other pod.
