July has brought heat and a need to water.
I still have plants to get out in pots and into the ground.
But they will wilt in the heat, so they are in the shade and waiting for a cloudy day.
And our heat is not as bad as the heat down south. We are 25ºC to low 30ºC this week.

We only get the occasional thunder shower, which does not give enough moisture for the plants.

Well July has been better than June, so far this year.
Right now humidity is still above average but temps. are actually below norm daytime but still above norm at night.
There is that climate change I have seen for a couple of years now.

The past two days I was weeding my South garden , especially the rose garden.
I have some type of thistle in the rose garden, not with nasty spines but I think it has rhizomes as it keeps spreading even though I pull it.
I also have what I though was a milkweed but unless there are several types I am not sure.
I spent four hours weeding but what should have been a six to eight hour job was shortened when my cousin came over to bs.
Lot more to do.
I had a few stalks of corn that were yellow so I trickled some liquid Miracle Grow straight on it.
I will not burn the plants, now I know that as they are nice a green now.

We had a storm blow in yesterday afternoon and I had a visitor taking shelter outside my bedroom window.

My North garden is weeded, it is odd seeing black ground on one side and very few weeds even trying to come up.
Tomatoes are loaded with fruit but none are near ripe. I have picked two Black Russian tomatoes and that is all that has been ready.
Tomatoes turned into a semi-jungles but due to planting pattern I have not gone whole hog on thinning them out.
Onions planted between them are doing real well despite reduced sunlight but broccoli look like they are on a week long drunk.
Carrots that showed up after I though they were doa are doing well.
I treated most of the garden first with Sonata and then Copper fungicide a few days ago, Copper was actually for Lilacs and such but I put extra on veggies.
I will get down South later this week and even though I totally weeded the rose garden down there I have not decided whether or not I will finally put hay bale slices between corn rows or just let the purseland go, as I have pulled most of the Quick Weed and Crabgrass. but I will dig out the last of the old Red Raspberries as they act like they still have the disease than caused me to rip out the other 90 percent.

I wonder if a new thread -- Late summer/ fall -- should be started but I would just use this one if it were up to me.

59 F right now with 82 percent humidity.
Beautiful day so far; I will be heading home in an hour or so to get much needed work done, Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing or so the script goes Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing .

Went to the County Fair last night and had a good time.
Only had two burgers and one fried cheese curds but the Lions club raised their price by a dollar. Grumbling Grumbling Which is really annoying as they sold them for the old price at their community burger stands a month ago . Blinking Blinking
Listened to a presentation by the gent who put out a book on the historic home of Minn.
If I were not heading home , he is doing it again and I would go to it again. Sighing!

Next week is the big modern Farm Show down by the Gilfillan Estate near Redwood , Mn.
I have been wanting to go to that again for years but never thought of it till it was too late; gotta get there this year.
One of these , with implement was on machinery hill at the County Fair, impressive to look at.

Farm Fest is on right now, ends tomorrow and once again I will not make it. Shrug!
Better to save money for Sharon's birthday next week and a the things we are doing then.

I got a fair amount of work done at home but have more to do, like try to get at least one side of the garage sanded down and primed.
Did all the weeding that absolutely had to be done, done, so while there are always more worst is over.
Put down chemical weed and feed, including some for crabgrass so grass will probably grow faster now. but lawn still needs a lot of work.
County fairs are on now and I hope hit at least one more but I am not betting on it.

Humidity was low then.
It is higher now since there was a sprinkle of rain.

It does make us appreciate what people in warmer climates have to deal with.

Hello Caroline, that was a hot day indeed!. Did the hail get your area yesterday? A little bit here but no plant damage. The smoke in the air is starting to bother my throat and eyes.

A few pics in my backyard and a couple videos taken on the evening of our hottest day on record.

Your yard is beautiful !
I have not been able to keep up the watering, so mine is a mess.
Just trying to keep a few things going now.
Ready for cool weather with no smoke in air !
Then I will get going on it again.

Still humid most days up , or down to Canucks, here.
On a humid cloudy day one can tolerate far more than when the sun pops out, so I have never been averse to cloudy weather.

As this is the Great White North section of this forum, here is a tribute to our greatest heros.

July was hot and humid this year but August has not been real dog days so far.
This year has been much better than 2018 all around.

What a difference two years make, hot and dry verses hot and humid, but August was much better than June or July. Group hug
