Irises for the ISM auction are here. they won't be able to complain about medians this yr.

Aitken & Keppel to come for us, 4 plants for 1 & 2 plants for the other. Keith says he will cut back even further so I bought a SDB & ab NDB.

These guys are killing me! Now I received my order from Joe Ghio on Friday, and he sent a refund check for 5 that were already gone. But it's OK as I already have all of them and they were just going to be added to my existing clumps. So that brought my order down to a total of 25, and he sent 12 bonus plants! I had ordered 3 of his new introductions (BRAVERY, MAGNANIMOUS and GLIMPSE) plus I got two Super Bonus Plants (POLITE APPLAUSE and PONTIFICATE); and he sent me 4 more new introductions as gifts: SUPERHERO, WINNING HAND, DOUBLE PLATINUM and BOY GENIUS. Can't beat that!

Edit: Forgot to add that since I had ordered a few of Barry Blyth's irises from him, he included 3 Blyth irises in my gift plants: HONOURABLE LORD, CINNAMON BELLS and RAISE THE CURTAIN.

I have now received all of my orders except Rockytop -- and I hope he waits at least a few more days before sending mine. Our weather has jumped back up to over 100 again, and the monsoon moisture once again is heading our way. I can't take much humidity, and it seems that I've been potting up irises nonstop for about two weeks now -- and I'm running out of pots!

yes, digging for the sale table at ISM auction this coming Sun. Hope that it opens up spaces for new SDBs so they don't have to sit around. the early orders get the places.

I forgot to specify a date for shipping on my Ghio order. I hope he doesn't get to late with it. You think I should contact him and let him know, or does he generally ship in July? I've never gotten iris from him before.

Tom, he ships in the order that he received the orders, and he ships through at least mid-August. I mailed my order on March 6th this year and I always specify early to mid July, and I got mine at just about the same time as always. So you can judge by the date you sent in your order, and if you're worried I think you should email him. He usually responds within 24 hours or so. But give him a good reason, like you meant to request early shipment but forgot and you're worried about winter arriving early and need to get them in the ground ASAP because you have very harsh winters, etc. He's pretty firm about his rules, but he might push your delivery forward -- who knows.

My Ghio order arrived today. There was one down side. The order was shipped on last Tuesday and didn't arrive until the following Monday...California to Utah is normally 3 days and they are a little dry and don't have the greatest roots but I bet they will do fine. Now the up side. I ordered 8 and he sent 14. I bought two of his Golden Anniversary intro specials and he sent me multiples of intros Bravery, Super Hero [the two I like the best from the pictures] and Boy Genius. Also intros Pontificate [2] and Magnanimous as gifts. I'll take the multiples to our UIS Auction Sat or plant and grow them and have them to share next year. I'll plant tomorrow or Weds as I watered the bed this morning and will need to wait for it to dry out a little.

I'm sorry to hear it took so long for your order to arrive, Paul. Mine looked pretty similar when I received them on Friday, though, and I still have part of them stored in the box to resume potting them up again starting tomorrow, when the weather gets back down to about 100 and hopefully the humidity will have blown away. So they may not look so great after sitting in the box for three more days.

If my memory serves me correctly, none of the iris I've received this year look quite as good generally as the rhizomes I got last year. So I'm thinking this has been a stressful year for the plants with all the weather fluctuations.

Just took another look at my order and they are just fine and I am happy...especially with the bonuses. There was a note in my Superstition Order which said "if you can't plant right now please take the iris from the box and lay them on newspaper somewhere in your house." I hope my bed is dry enough tomorrow that it is workable. I didn't expect anything til Weds so I watered. Often when we get club orders in early Aug the rhizomes are a little dry. Keppel and Mid-America still to come.

Aitken is here, so just Keith Keppel to come. Only ordered 2 plants. He says will be fewer next yr & you could be sure that the medians are the fewer.

I planted my Ghio order this morning. they are looking good. I'm running out of prepared space with 2 more orders coming. I had better not take the check book to the UIS sale and auction this Saturday. I know they are going to have Insaniac which I would like and what else Confused . Get behind me iris temptation.

I have said more times than I like to remember when removing some grass that it would be the last time. My grand sons say..."we've heard that before". They have been my helpers over the years but now have full time jobs and are going to school so they have less time. . Realistically I need to work on my established beds and get them weed free and improve the soil. Cade is coming to mow today so I'm going to weed and edge. Some days I wish I were 10 years younger but.........
