Nifty photo! Do they look like this all the time, or is that intense color contrast due to something special?

I was really impressed when this one first opened. Huge blooms, clear red and well defined "tango" markings. The only reason I bought it was to compare to two similar ones, Pup Art and Starburst which are both in the database, I believe. I wanted to get some visual information on whether any of these might be the same lily, renamed (Dutch are well known for doing that). It is definitely not the same as Starburst and probably not Pup Art. This has become my excuse to buy lilies!

I was curious because some of the other photos of this lily don't have that dramatic contrast.

Assuming all the photos are correctly identified, including mine, here are some reasons why they might look different:

Age of bloom when photo was taken: I caught mine right after they opened when colors are most intense. Also no shiny glare from the sun as in other photos.

Resolution of photo and differences in cameras used: In my photo the tango speckling is resolved along the edges right out to the tips of the petals. Some photos won't show that.

Environmental conditions that vary with location can greatly affect coloration. I have received many comments, mainly from the Midwest (think HOT), about how much more colorful some of my lilies are than the same cultivar in their gardens. Temperature can greatly affect colors of many cultivars.

Here is a link to the similar lily Starburst. I no longer have it but I remember its flowers as being smaller than Olina's.

Beauty of a pic. The black/red delineation presents well.

This lily is growing in a container so I was able to photo it well placed where the sun was not right on it nor was it so shady that my flash would go off. So natural lighting. Notice the Japanese iris Chiyo-no-Haru overseeing the whole process Smiling . It is more visible in my other photo.

Do you have any recommendations on a source for this lily? This looks like a "must have" to me! Smiling

You might try a google search for sources. I got mine from Faraway Flowers but they are closed until further notice. I know The Lily Nook in Canada has it but it is expensive when you have to pay the phyto fee to import it.

Well, I have it on my list, so I'll just have to keep looking around. Wrong time of year for planting them anyway. Going to make sure to have these in my garden next year, tho! Smiling
