Hello. Thanks for reading this.
I live near Chicago and our streets are salted in the winter after snowfalls. I have some pachysandra, periwinkle, and creeping phlox near my curb and they have tolerated the salting for many years. Now I have an area where I would like to plant some lily-of-the-valley and another where I would like to plant lamium. Will these plants tolerate the salt?
Thanks again. Stay healthy.

I wouldn't plant anything next to the road where Sodium chloride (NaCl) is sprayed.
NOT A EXPERT! Just a grow worm! I never met a plant I didn’t love.✌

I have never tried it, but I have read that asparagus is tolerant of salt. You should contact the City and find out what is meant by "salting" the roads. It is an old term that might be dated. I was under that impression that Cities were no longer using NaCl, but I can't seem to find anything to support that impression. Below is a link. Personally, there will always be a front line of defense when it comes to the soil and road salts. I would definitely plant along the road. Just make sure whatever you plant can tolerate it. Hopefully, you can find less expensive plants to do the work of cleaning up the mess. I have 99 problems, but road salt isn't one. (We're on the uphill side of the salting.)

Below is a link, that may or not be useful. It is a little too ad laden for my taste.

Here's a link about green street planters ie swales. It doesn't have a plant list however. You might google swales and see what plants grow in your area.
