I have implemented a browser addon that you can add to your browser. I know it works in Firefox and it might work in other browsers, too.

All you have to do is go to the database (any page of the database, actually) and then click on the down arrow in your search engine bar. Then click on "Add ATP Database Search" and you've then got it.

I like this because I can now perform a search without first loading the database page.

Here's a screenshot that shows it being added:

Okay, I followed the instructions, put a plant in the search box, clicked on All Things Plants in the dropdown and it did a normal web search. Which step am I doing incorrectly? Isn't it supposed to look within ATP's DB?

chelle, first select the ATP database for your search engine. It will then show the leaf icon instead of the google logo. Then do your search and it should work.

Oh, I think I understand. So my AVG Secure Search wouldn't be utilized after I switched it, right? I did click on "Add ATP Database Search". I wonder why it didn't change already? I'll try it again, something I'm doing is perhaps out of sequence.

Once you add it, you then have to select if from the list of search engines in your browser. It will then remain active until you go back and re-select a different search engine.

My search engine manager says it's installed, but nothing changes when I select it. It still does an AVG web-wide search.

Then I thought since my secure search default settings might be hampering it I'd try it on Google Chrome, but I don't even see the little down arrow anywhere in the browser bar area. Shrug!

Sorry that didn't work, Chelle. I'm not familiar with the AVG system you're using there...

Well, I couldn't do it using Safari but with Dave's great instructions I got it to work on Firefox! I will have to force myself to start using Firefox because I Love this feature!

So does this mean that we can search a plant in the database from any page we are on in ATP by typing it in to a search box any where here in ATP?

Not sure how this is working.

You can seach from anywhere when your browser is open. The search box is not on atp but on your browser. This feature allows you to use your browsers built-in search box to search ATP.
