Yep, we sure did. Trish bought a bowling ball at a garage sale, so one of the children and I glued pennies across its entire surface. I really like it! We cleaned the pennies with vinegar and a bit of salt, and affixed them to the ball using E-6000 glue.

It really looks great! And the pedestal is neat too! You guys did a good job; did you seal the surface with anything to keep the pennies from tarnishing?

The pedestal was very drab and ugly when Trish brought it home from another garage sale. She painted it that lovely blue color and we all love it!

I did not seal the pennies, and they are already developing a pretty nice blue-green patina which I think is very attractive. It would be very easy to clean them again and I may do that one day, but for now I'm enjoying that "aged copper" look.

I may have to copy this idea!! I have several copper colored items in my pergola area (a birdbath and another gazing ball, both in the picture) and it would look really nice there. Thanks for sharing, Dave.
I too am an inveterate yard sale shopper and my yard is full of items I picked up there.Thumb of 2012-07-16/Dutchlady1/38b6ab

Hetty- You'll have to seal the pennies for them to keep the color, FYI. As Dave mentioned, ours has already developed a patina.

You know, you could do that same thing to a bowl shaped planter. Smiling

Dave, that gazing ball is actually metal, I don't think it's real copper though. The birdbath is....
I might not seal the penny ball when I make it, and let it weather, I love the verdigris.

I love the penny ball too! I saw a floor made of pennies on Pinterest and liked that as well.

Great job Dave and Trish (with the blue paint!)
