They look pretty good.
My daughter took this picture of my two 15 year old hens. She can get down low enough to get a hen's eye view of them.

Beautiful old girls. It's amazing how long a farm animal can live when given the care they need.

15 years! and they really look good. Do they still lay eggs? I just can't seem to get one to live longer then 9 years. I've had several get to be 9, and then they die. I had one hen that was 9 and in really good health, only she started to have rooster characteristics. She grew spurs, her comb enlarged, and she began crowing too. One night I forgot to shut up the chickens, and something killed 3 of my Roosters and her. I do have a half leghorn hen that is 9 this year, she's in good health, and is still laying an egg every once in a while. We'll see if she makes it to 10.

They didn't lay any eggs this year, but laid about 6 last year. They don't lay very often when they get old.

Most of mine kicked the bucket at about 11 or 12. Some died younger. I had a silkie hen that died at 14 last winter.
Some literally drop dead - of apparent stroke or heart attack. My large silkie rooster was found dead under his perch in the morning. Some die of cancer. I've had a few hens get ovarian cancer which was determined by the vet. (Whenever a chicken starts a slow decline, I make sure it's nothing contagious). The vet said that ovarian cancer in animals that ovulate as often as a chicken isn't surprising.

I have a 7 year old half naked neck, half white crested black polish. She broke her leg last year, I though she would be a goner, but the leg healed, and now she walks with a very slight limp, espectially if she's running. I hatched one of her eggs this year, and have a nice pullet from her. I'm glad, as she's been a really good layer, and fun to look at too. The chick doesn't have the naked neck though. I have two of her half sisters, same crested mom, different father, and all three of them are 7 years old and really good layers yet. I hatched one of her sister's eggs too this year, and it came out blue, as the father must have been my Americana rooster. It has the puffy check feathers too.

I will try to remember to take a pic of her later today. She's becoming my favorite hen, since I lost my "PJ" this summer. PJ was a part light Brahman, and she always reminded me of a portly grandma wearing her night gown and apron waddling around. She used to have the neatest wobble when she ran. Just found her laying dead one day, I have no idea why, she was only about 5 years old.

Sudden unexpected death is the most common reason for loss of a hen for me - at any age. It's rather frustrating.

She was not feeling photogenic today!
You can see the small crest on her head, and if you look at the left leg, you might see where it was broken,it has a small enlargement there.

I love her!

I had a rooster that must have been part naked neck since he had a bare neck like that. He lived until 10 or 12.

Well, as they say, the beauty is in the inside, lol She is a really friendly cool old chick, and she still lays many eggs.

Well, once again, I won't be having a 10 year old chicken. My 9 year old leghorn cross hen that was doing so well all summer, still laying an egg once in a while, died yesterday. Just found her dead. I just can't get one older then 9 years for some reason. I have a few 7 year olds now, so maybe one of them will make it to 10.

Guess we are blessed to have them to live just as long as they can. Sorry about your loss....
