Don't laugh!!!
That big adenium I'm so proud of... I decided this afternoon was the day to put it the pot... I'm working, its looking great, I'm so happy, then all of a sudden, ANTS!!! Come pouring out of the caudex and I'm not talking a few hundred but LOTS!!
They streamed out for a half hour before I grabbed my camera. The plant just so happened to be touching a canastel tree leaf and they ran up the adenium and on to the tree... I couldn't believe it! The photos are a little foggy cause I didn't wait long enough to get the camera acclimated from the AC inside. Confused Confused

It looks like they are carrying eggs, they were probably all moved in and thinking they could hollow out that caudex and make a nice home. Of course, they will bring their pet aphids along too.

Ugh! I hate ants, really hate them. We must have dozens of types of ants here and none of them are useful in my mind. The leaf cutters are the worst but the small red ones that bite are pretty bad. Good luck, I say kill them all.

I have found that cinnamon repels ants. They just disappear.

Any kind of powder doesn't last in our rainy season. Plus, our ants are incredibly invasive and inventive. They live inside the walls and burrow behind rocks and in electrical channels. I have an exterminator come every 2 months but that just keeps them at bay, there is no getting rid of them. The leaf cutters I can put out bait and kill the colony, eventually another will move in from nearby. I'm convinced that ants, cockroaches and crab grass will inherit the earth.

The ants don't like cinnamon, I tried it on some ant hills close to house and one in flower pot. I see not activity...

Funny thing it was covered in cinnamon from when I trimmed it. I didn't see any noticeable ant activity on my work bench table and not until I was working the mix around the roots did they charge out the "door" of their castle Hilarious!

RobertB Thumbs up
