I had bought two Black Cherry Hybred Teas and one Frankly Scarlett Florabunda last week when I was out doing errands. At least I think it was last week, time goes by so quickly. At any rate they were the Milk Carton looking boxed roses that the nurseries commonly have each spring around here.

So today since it is nice, warm, bright and sunny, I got a chance to work in the garden again. I planted all three of them so that chore is done. Hurray!

I don't have anything cuirrently to plant but that will change as it gets warmer and there are things to buy at the nurseries. I always buy lots of annuals if nothing else.

I still do have things to transplant, two roses and some daylilies. Now I am going to go out and cut back my butterfly bushes. I have five of them.

Wow, sounds like a good day! I just got a box of roses from the co-op buy. I should get started on them when I get home from work tonight. Then more daylilies, a fig tree and another tree (can't remember which it is, but at least I know it is a tree!). And then I need to continue potting up tomatoes and eggplants and peppers. Sigh, I love spring!

I finished my trimming of the butterfly bushes. I should go out and start on more moving projects but I am out of steam already.

I really have no room for more roses, my rose beds are all full. But I managed to get these to fit.

Last year I was pretty much out of room but then I redid the entire side of the house rose bed. Moved things around, got rid of (only afew) that were not working out and then added 30 new roses. So this year, not going to be adding alot.

Sounds like you're already well on your way. I can't wait for this weekend when I can spend Saturday in the garden. The forecast is in the 70's!

All my rose prunning is finished already. It took a really long time this year as I now have so many roses. I am glad that I started that project early this year.

Wow, Mike. That sounds great. Better than California. Our weekend forecast is for rain with temps in the mid-50s, dipping down into the 30s at night.

I guess I can put boxed roses outside now. The one I put out today has lots of growth on it. Is it too soon to plant new roses that are not still dormant? One thing that I must say, is that I took a chance and bought a Don Juan Climber from Walmarts for $6.00. I am used to seeing a really good root system on the bare root roses that I buy, which are never climbers. The Don Juan had a pretty sparse root system. Is this typical for climbers?

No, the sparse root system is because the roots are chopped way back so they can fit in those bags or boxes that the box stores sell them in. Give it a good soak and plant it with the bud graft below ground. I had a boxed Don Juan for afew years that I bought boxed locally but I didn't like the fact that it was virused. I bought an own root non virused one from Heirloom roses three years ago and when that new one grew out, I tossed the old one. There was a big difference in the amount of flowers produced between the virused one (not so many) and the new one (lots of bloom). Don Juan is a very beautiful rose.
