I noticed this morning that 2 lily buds on two of my plants has damage to it. Do you think the JP's did this or perhaps grasshoppers?





None of my other lilies have this damage. The buds are too far up the stalk for rabbits nibbling.

Earwigs (aka devil's spawn) do that here.

I hate earwigs. I never figure out exactly what draws them to lilies. They like dark, wet quarters. I would think the smell would chase them out of orientals and trumpets, but no....

Does anything eat earwigs. Seems to me not, but then who knows. Whatever eats them must get a larger appetite.

I wouldn't have thought earwigs given our dry conditions up until today. Finally some rain.
The lily that got damaged looks to be Tiger Edition which is an oriental.... I think.

I still have earwigs all over, I think the damp dark is what they are desperate for this year, when we are in a severe drought. The only numbers I see of bug populations that are a bit of a decrease are the Japanese Beetles. The earwigs are still around.

Yes, I saw that. We too had less JP's than previous years.

There are far more Devil's Spawn (earwigs) here in the harsher and dryer climate of Spokane than in the milder and wetter Oregon. Perhaps it is so wet there they drown!
Chickens eat earwigs, chickens eat just about anything, and are real good mouse killers and dispose of the bodies better than cats. Ducks may eat them too but those I had in oregon and they were busy with the hordes of slugs.

Run for your lives!! killer chickens!!!!- No seriously, the chickens killing mice, makes a lot of sense, when it comes to explaining my friends place, [with no cats] but about 50 chickens I just have 'large parrots',, they eat nothing from the 'pest garden'- except weeds
