My roses are doing great this year. I have new pots and before I could get them in they were blooming for me. I do not know names as I am not a rose person. I just want to be. I wanted to share these with you. Please tell me how to propagate them. shirleyt

Your roses look absolutely fabulous, Shirley! How many do you have and how did you happen to get them without knowing their names?

They are gorgeous Shirley!
There are several good articles online with tips on how to propagate them, here's one:

I don't have roses yet either. I am glad to have lots of leaves! I am relieved to not have dead sticks. Before I happened upon Austin's Wildeve and discovered own root roses, spring meant digging out dead sticks. I walk past the roses in the big box stores chanting my mantra, no more dead sticks....at least not until I master the art of propagating roses.

My crocuses are done blooming, so I don't have flowers at the moment. I need to plant some more spring perennials. Any suggestions? I am thinking of phlox. I saw some cute little blue flowers blooming is someone's garden, I need to find out what they are.

I love the coral roses. Coral and peach are my favorite rose colors.

Here is the ones that have opened since last post. I know the yellow is Lady Banks. We call the pink and white rose Aunt Bee's rose because the PP thought it looked like the one Opie broke.lol. The profusely blooming one is a shrub rose I picked up years ago. This is a baby from the mother plant. It roots very easily. The other pink top right is a vintage rose my Mom had years ago. I thought its name was HB Cant but I researched and did not find a rose listed by that name. I am trying to find my tags . I am sure I have them some where. I counted my roses and I now have twenty plants that are doing well and some babies coming along. I have several more types yet too bloom. I will post them when they appear. I cannot believe I did not have any roses here. I have lived here since 1975 and was busy raising children not roses and the gardening we did was vegetables for the freezer. lol. My how times change. I have not done a vegetable garden for years. shirleyt

You're probably thinking of Mrs. B.R. Cant, Shirley. It's a pink tea that blooms profusely.

Thanks It is Mrs. B.R. Cant for sure. At least I remembered the Cant part. lol I am just not good at remembering names. But I do know what I like when I see it and I really love this one. I am trying to do better by my roses this year. They have been on their own for a couple years. shirleyt

Shirley. Your roses are beautiful! Thank you for sharing them.

I'm glad to see Mrs B.R. Cant doing so well. I noticed that Monsieur Tillier was doing well in my own garden and decided to get another in the same vein, but different. So Mrs Cant is on her way here in May. Of course it will be some years before she puts on a show like your rose does.

Do you have any idea of the name of your yellow and red hybrid tea rose? ( It's not, by any chance, Perfect Moment, is it? )
When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes.

I am still looking for the tags. I think perfect moment is right for the yellow and red.. I also think the deep red is Dolly Parton. I seem to remember reading that name on a tag. I remember thinking oh Dolly has a rose lol. I searched images and the Dolly Parton looks like the big red. I am sorry I am such a ditz. I will not let that happen again. I will secure my tags. I very carefully saved all my amaryllis tags. Would you not think I would put every tag in the same place. But noooo not me. That would be much too simple. Everyone have a great day. Looks like we may get some badly needed rain. It is Jazz Fest time in NO so of course it will rain. lol...shirleyt

Dolly Parton's more of a hot coral color than deep red. It fades to a deeper red, though, almost mauve. And at least you *have* tags! I know all of us has some NOIDs running around in the yard... How old is your deep red? Is it huge? Smelly? if it's a newer rose, it could be Firefighter. If it's older, it could be Oklahoma or Mr. Lincoln. I know they're all deeper red w/huge smelly blooms. At least mine are. When I have blooms, which I'm not having as of late due to a late frickin' snow!!

That actually does look like Dolly Parton. I think the problem is two different interpretations of the term "deep red."

When I checked images it did show three roses two red and one orange listed as Dolly Parton. Now here is the kicker. I just remembered the name Dolly Parton. Did not know which rose the name went to. Sooo guess what I also have and orange rose that could be it one of the five bought together.. Sandy is gone with the camera right now so it will be Tuesday before I can get a shot but it is blooming. My yellow rose that blooms all year is blooming, Queen Elizabeth and the Mr Lincoln that reverted to root stock because of freezing is all blooming and my vintage pink rose is blooming also. The ones I already posted are on another flush. I was disappointed in Mrs Banks. She has a short bloom time and is growing slowly. However she is very easy to root. Bad time for the camera to be away lol. My camera has no batteries right now. I need to go shopping and I hate that. Roses are such fun. shirleyt

I am glad you enjoy my roses. No one is more surprised than me at how well they are doing. We had just started collecting some roses when Katrina hit. She wiped out most of the mother plants. I had luckily been propagating several of them. Over the past several years I have continued to do so and now with the five new ones have a nice little collection going. It is not as important to me to know the names as it is you guys. I am a putterer not a gardener that keeps records and tags in detail. I just plant it and if it does well I try to propagate and if it takes I have "a nice little surprise". If it doesn't do well we try something else next season. I am delighted with BR Cant, and the vintage shrub roses, and Queen Elizabeth. They are very easy to propagate and just what I need. They bloom all summer If I remember to dead head. One of the vintage shrubs only blooms for a couple weeks but the show is awesome. Lady Banks is still trying hard in an area where I want it but the soil needs lots of help there. What is your favorite with propagation being the main thing. I am getting a late start at this and need to fill this space fast and economically. shirleyt

My favorite method of propagation is Home Depot. LOL! I can't root a rose if you gave me a rooted rose to start with! Trust me, I've tried. But I always forget to water or something and end up with a mummified rose start. *sigh*

But your roses are gorgeous.

Mine work best when I'm not planning it. Here's an old photo to illustrate what I mean. The white rose that's climbing up the persimmon tree in the back of the photo was not planted by me. One day I was pruning roses and had an entire wheelbarrow full of pruning debris. As I came around that corner, the wheelbarrow tipped. I thought I had picked up all of the little sticks, but I evidently left some there, because a huge Madame Alfred Carriere grew in that spot and climbed to the top of the tree.

Here is the other roses I have that are now blooming. The rain did a number on them. Some are looking bad way too soon. grumbling: The top pink is Queen Elizabeth, the yellow I do not know but it is awesome, blooms from spring to frost. The red is the Mr Lincoln that reverted because of freeze back. The lavender is a vintage rose that has been around here all my life. Also the pink in the bottom corner. The rains messed it up. It usually looks great for two weeks. It has been passed around in this area for seventy five years to my personal knowledge. I still have a cascade red that is not blooming yet. Queen Elizabeth is my favorite because she is beautiful and is easy to root. I have four of these and plan to do more. I am reserving judgement on the five from last year until I see if I can root them. That is a big deal with me. I always try to root any plant I get. I am always surprised how many just take off. It is such fun. shirleyt
