Gardenia plants are considered "prima donnas" by many when it comes to growing them as many of them are prone to root diseases.

I found the following two easy to care for. During the summer months they're outside where they get morning sun until about 1pm. During the colder months of the year they're placed under fluorescent plant lights and watered only when dry.

1 tbsp of bone meal and slow release Osmocote, 19-6-12, has been added to the soil. Once a month these gardenia plants get some Epsom Salt which is dissolved in hot water, cooled off and added to a watering can.

These are beautiful. Do not have the coronate, wish I did. I so wanted a yellow. The Rubiaceae must be easier to grow.

I bought a Gardenia jasminoides 'Aurea' from Logee's Sept. 2010, I have not yet seen it bloom. This plant is a definite PD and I am usually pretty good with the jasminoides.

I lost my Diamond's Favorite Delight this past winter because of the really warm winter we had I had GH problems with humidity and unfortunately I lost this one. I just loved it. Maybe I will replace it one day.

I have not used Epsom Salts yet I hear so many people do. All my plants are in containers and I was told I did not need to use ES because they already have plenty of what they need. I guess it is a matter of who you ask. This was a State Inspector that told me that.!!! Send more pictures...I love to see what everyone has. Have a great day and take a deep 'sniff' for me. I'm using Epsom Salt for all my container grown plants, including tomatoes and peppers, for many years.
