Oh My!!! Drooling

So many gardeners (not just here at ATP) have shown this lily because it is so new and different. But yours, Michael, looks so healthy! I do believe yours is what all the others aspire to be! Hurray!

Looks great Mike! Have tried growing it here and it does not do well at all for me. One of the greatest things about this forum is seeing and hearing about what other gardeners are doing and growing. So something that does terribly here I am able to enjoy through others, like this. Thanks so much.

Perhaps my soil is too alkaline for the highly species in nature hybrid. It has L. nepalense as a genetic contributor, and that species does not grow well for me either.

Kushi Maya I have tried a couple of different times here, ample compost added and mixed in to native soils, part sun, full sun. I've had a few to play around with and here it has not been too impressive. I rather the hybrids from strong lilums like L. henryi and Black Beauty, the more indestructible types for this climate anyway. What I get from Kushi Maya is small flowers that don't last long, odd petal formation on some flowers and low bud count all around. It burned this year, of course, but so did so many others. A season of high heat and drought will tell you who the performers are and who they aren't. That's just my take on this. Kudos to those of you who have success with this one. It is beautiful.

Having just planted a Kushi Maya, I wanted to say that it has the fattest scales I have ever seen! They're amazing. Really wide, and over 10mm thick. If I was going for a feed, this one looks promising Drooling

Today it bloomed 7-7-2013
Thumb of 2013-07-07/mnorberry/f65545
Thumb of 2013-07-07/mnorberry/09a2af
Thumb of 2013-07-07/mnorberry/798c7b

It had 3 buds, one large stalk and 7 small ones. The leaves are turning dark because it was under a bush and didn't get any sun, to much moisture.
