DH & I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner (El Parrell) and I caught a picture of this rainbow.

Then, after dinner, we went to Furniture Row as we needed some new bookshelves. After getting out of there, we were driving almost 100% pure East and that's when I saw this cloud bank. I pulled into a church parking lot to take pics.

Here's a closeup. You can see the strange updrafts.

It's a pretty big cloud bank. this was literally about 1/25th of the whole bank.

I just don't like the updrafts.. very weird. Probably wherever this hits is going to be hit badly with hail

My camera doesn't do panoramic but I was able to get a nice distance picture here.

Same cloudbank, different angle. Here, I'm pointing almost pure South and this is looking out to the southeast. I managed to get a couple of shots before the light changed, so I got some traffic-free shots here. This is just west of I25.

I think that this is a great shot, very beautiful imo.

Cool pictures! Did those clouds bring any strange weather with them?

PPal - Actually, we just had a small hail storm. We got caught on the extreme edge of it and it was booming pretty intensely because it was pretty warm today (over 90). Our poor neighbors to the east, Limon & other small towns on the eastern plains.. well, they'll get snabbed with some nasty nasty weather, including major hail & possible tornadoes.

I was pretty lucky though.. no hail damage for me as of now. Last year, we had a hail storm that ripped through my town of Parker and caused WAAAAY lots of damage.. there was even a tornado that hovered over downtown Parker (woohoo, downtown Parker... yay ) but didn't do much damage. Just talked to a friend of mine who's on the southern part of town and her roof is completely destroyed & needs to be fixed, but her insurance agent is ripping her off

Just a note: I just looked at these pictures on my main computer (24" iMac) instead of on my teeny notebook (Toshiba NB205) where I wrote the original thread. You know, those ARE some pretty neat pictures I took! I'm glad I took them!

Absolutely gorgeous -- photo contest winner gorgeous! But also eerie. I've never seen updrafts like those.

I wouldn't say photo contest winner gorgeous, but pretty darned good for someone w/o a clue on how to take pictures and uses a little Canon SD1200 in hot pink, doncha think. :D :D :D I love telling people the kind of camera I use after they see the pictures.. most people don't believe that good pictures can come from those little compact camera and you have to have a DSLR camera in order to take beautiful shots. :P~~~~

Cloud 9 almost looks like they set too many of those mysterious canisters too close together!

Let's hope the ice crystals in cloud 9 are not ice 9, or we'll soon find watering our garden's to be more difficult than usual.

If you read much, I think you might enjoy Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle.

In real life, Vonnegut's brother was a scientist involved in the creation of materials to seed clouds to cause rain. This inspired him to write about about a scientist who created a form of ice - ice 9 - that froze at 95F. Toss a crystal into a tropical swamp. It would freeze solid, and tanks could cross without getting stuck! Great idea except if... well you have to read the book.

I think the updrafts are cool! And those mysterious containers came to mind the minute I saw these photos!

Although it is a challenge for you to grow roses, the scenery in your area is gorgeous.
