Is your Purple Robe thorny, Larry? I miss the old locust tree that I grew up with, thorns and all. It didn't bloom red though, only pale yellow/whitish as I remember.

Isn't it just the strangest year ever for plants?

My Amana banana canna has resumed blooming after a 2 week long hiatus.

No thorns, Sharon. I've got it in a pot and am training it as a standard, i.e. keeping it as short as possible. It's an exuberant grower, so I have to keep after it with the pruning shears. Glad I haven't pruned it yet this year, as I would probably have prevented it from blooming now.

Hooray for the banana canna! Has it had any humming bird visits? Ours is a magnet for hummers.

Funny you should say that. I just looked outside and there were two hummers hovering over and in the canna!! They haven't had a very good selection here this summer, guess they are happy to see the bloom!
