Here in NC today it was in the 70s and sunny. It will be down to freezing tonight. I decided to do some cleaning up of the gardens. I have spring bulbs already emerging. When I checked on my tree peonies, Lu Liu had put out not 1 but 3 buds. I am trying to attach a pic, but I can't find it on my hard drive. I hope this isn't another crazy weather spring. This tree peony bloomed in February last year. 15 of my 20 tree peonies are showing large, full buds and beginning to grow. This is not good. I also have 2 itohs with full growth coming out. Not normal.

Oh Gary, that doesn't sound good. We have has really odd warm weather too. It is the new climate norm. Whatever the season, you're bound to have extremes in temperature and precipitation maximums (flooding) or null (drought). Hopefully they will hold tight before developing too far. Crossing Fingers!

Yeah, I've been pretty worried here in Missouri.

I have a lilac bush that has hundreds of forming buds and one of my Festiva Maximas has pushed the tip of a stem up. Tonight should be the end of all that, but the lilac failed to flower last year and it is getting set-up for another poor year.

I saw a video showing how a tree peony bud opened to leaves with an inner bud to form the flower, so I am guessing this means the empty center will result in no flower but will it still become leaves?
It has side buds also so hopefully it is not too much to worry over yet.
This is Shimadaijin......Godaishu (Giant globe) on one side of a terminal bud has done the same thing.

Oh no, Gary. Doesn't sound good.
I have been worrying about the weather here, too. It has been very warm.

So far no stems have emerged on the herbaceous Peonies.
I have three woody peonies with leaves unfurled. I have not seen any buds yet. 🀞🏻

Keep us posted!

I watched a huge flock of birds pass overhead yesterday, flying north. It took over 5 minutes for them to all fly past - tens of thousands of birds. It is the top of February - we're at least 6 weeks away from spring birds arriving so this was a very strange sight.

Wow Top, that is scary.

The empty soybean field next to me was full of robins Saturday morning. Sunday morning they were all gone.

The ladybugs 🐞 and stink bugs were out all weekend here.

We're looking at 6" to 8" of snow that will fall over 20 hours or so. Closer to normal, but the moisture is coming from the gulf.

Rain here. I've had 2.25 inches of rain already. We are under tornado watch. Also they've closed the schools in our county for the whole week because of rampant illness of teachers and students.

LG, I'm glad the bad weather didn't affect you, and stay healthy!

We had 76 degree temps on Monday, torrential rains, storm damage, and flooding since!

Today, it's sleeting/snowing!πŸ₯Άβ„οΈπŸŒ¨
