Well, I hope some of them bloom next year! I've had Pop Idol before, it made the winter, bloomed, and then died, so I'm going to give it a special place and see if I can keep it going. Just love that one. They took 5 days getting here, and spent the weekend in a PO some place, but they look pretty good anyway. The weather was a bit cooler yesterday, so it was nice to be digging in the dirt again, and not have the hot sun beating me up. I have several more beds to dig and moving some, and just cleaning up some more. An endless job. lol.

My Ghio order took several days to get here also. It came Parcel Post which must be slower. Other west coast orders came in 2-3 days. Mary Ann...Tom's order came from Ghio but are not all ones he hybridized. Some are Keppel and Blyth.......

I really love the Ghio irises too, although as I've mentioned before, some of them don't seem to like our winters here. I had to sit on my hands to keep from ordering Super Hero. I really love that one, but $50. when I'm not sure it will make the winter, I think I'll wait. The doily is a cheap imitation bought at a store. But, I went to an estate sale where they were selling hand made doilies etc. box full for $2. I told the lady that she would regret selling these some day, but she didn't like them. So I bought a bunch of them mostly to remind me of my Grandma who used to make lots of that stuff, and after she died, I never got any of her stuff.

I think you're wise to wait on the *Super Hero* -- if you're gonna kill it, kill it at a cheaper price! lol

I know what you mean about those hand-made doilies, etc. My Mom was a great crochet-er. She made us all hand-crocheted tablecloths. I'm not big on doilies, but when she passes, I intend to get at least one of hers -- just because she made it.

I splurged and ordered Super Hero this year in one of Ghio's Golden Anniversary Specials so I got three intros, Super Hero, Double Platinum, and Pontificate for $123.50 so the price averaged out $40 each....but the nice surprise was he sent a second smaller start of Super Hero. Both look great. I will have some from increase from the smaller one to dig for the UIS Auction next year. I might use some of it's pollen also although I really don't have any room for seedlings. I went over board ordering this year but I have firm resolve to order fewer next year. No room. I'll need to eliminate one for every one I order.

Well Paul, I keep telling you grass is over rated! It just costs time and money mowing it, and takes up space for iris! I'll be looking for the pictures of Super Hero next spring! I think Kent put up a really neat picture of it on some thread, can't remember where, but it was breath taking. Maybe it's in the data base. That being said, I did manage to dump a few kinds of iris this year, some I sold out, and others I just put in the compost pile. It wasn't supposed to be this hot today, I had planned on doing some digging and moving, but it's really too hot. I have to save my energy to feed all those horses this afternoon.

I am mowing today edging all the flower beds and hoping my grandson comes and finishes the job. I have two fairly large beds that need major rehabilitation before I give any thought to digging more lawn. I rarely mention personal things but my wife of 46 years was very ill last year and I spent most of my time caring for her and the garden was neglected. She passed away right after Christmas and now I have lots of time but regrettably lack a little ambition. I ordered many iris when the catalogs came because it allowed me to think of other things than my problems. I have a number of doilies that were done by my Mother and Grandmother and have a few out in the house........My grandson just called and is coming to finish the lawns Thumbs up

You have WONDERFUL grandsons, Paul! And I know how much you appreciate the help. I've been in the position of having to get rid of something else for every new one I plant for a couple of years now -- not fun! But my neighbors do love it!

It's helpful to have something to dive into during times like that. You can be thankful that you have supportive family.

Paul -- if I haven't said so before, I'm very sorry for your loss. Forty-six years is a long time to be married to one person. Bless your heart for spending her final time on earth taking care of her. And for missing her enough to need diversions, after her passing. I think you're a rare and special man.

I had my own family health issues that prevented me from spending time in my Iris beds last year, so this year I'm doing double-duty. I've almost got Iris Lane in order -- although I may not have many blooms next year as most of those Irises needed thinning and/or moving. So most of it is newly planted fans. Oh well -- it'll look great in 2014!!

I just succumbed to the lure of Dee's $3.00 sale -- and ordered ten more. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I truly do not know where I'll plant them. Oh well -- there's always space around the lilac bush!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Tom, would you mind posting pictures of irises received over on Cubits in our receipt report? I would truly appreciate it.
