Morning All and Hello,

I just popped in because I couldn't resist showing off my newest bloom!

This is Rosa Moyesii Geranium, its a fairly large shrub rose, very thorny, disease resistant and shade tolerant. It is an improved version of the Chinese Mountain wild rose. I'm told it will reach between 10 and 18 feet eventually and it can be trained as a climber. In the autumn it produces huge bottle shaped hips.

Last year it only had one flower , but this year its covered so it will be interesting to see what happens later in the year. Hope you like it!

Thank you, I've never seen that rose before. I think I need to look for one.

Hello, Carol. So glad you dropped by with this lovely photo. I acquired one of these roses purely by accident when I ordered Geranium Red, a hybrid tea, from Hortico. They sent me this Moyesii rose instead. The hips this winter were spectacular.

Hi Zuzu,
I have posted a database entry for it and some other pictures, but they haven't shown up yet. Hope that was OK?

I bought mine in a "rescue this poor plant" sale of bare rooted roses last June. They were left overs and would have died if not rescued so they were very cheap - I think it was $1.50 per rose. I bought 10 including a couple of David Austin's and they are all about to flower!!

OK? It's great. I'll get right over to the database and approve them. We are delighted when people contribute to the database (that's not the royal "we"; I'm speaking for Sue as well).

Good news about your rescue plants.

Carol, thanks so much. Beautiful photos. There was already an entry for Geranium, so I just added your details to it. Please feel free to add a comment to that page if you find that I left out anything salient.
