I have two very similar plants, and maybe they are both Red Volunteer that I divided a long time ago. One of the plants has put up a rebloom scape this year, which I never noticed before. None of the guides say that Red Volunteer is a rebloomer. It could be another one like Carmine Monarch which I had once but lost track of. This one will rebloom, according to the guide. Does anyone grow both of these, and if so are they nearly identical?

I grew Red Volunteer years ago. I don't recall it reblooming. Have not grown Carmine Monarch. Rebloom depends so much on the rain, heat etc. here that not that many plants rebloom here.

I don't have Carmine Monarch, but my Red Volunteer has not rebloomed. Like daylily, I don't get much rebloom here. The description of CM says it has a green throat, and Red Volunteer has a gold yellow throat according to the AHS site. Maybe you can distinquish it from that. Looking at the blooms posted in the daylily list here though, they look somewhat similar with RV being a little darker red.
