I just read your "crepe" and "crape" story on Cubits.

I didn't read Dave's story but when we moved down here, I spelled it crepe also. I didn't know. But then I read in Southern Living that crape was the correct spelling.

I actually learned a whole lot of things about "southern" rules Whistling Green Grin!

When you add to your blog I can't wait to read it. I prefer "crepe" to "crape" myself, so what difference does it make, right?? Since I'm not Southern I guess I can spell it the way I want. Well, our city has planted the lovely trees all over and I truly love them. So many different colors too. The city will plant a tree for in your front yard, and this beauty is one of the trees. All these years and can't make up our mind, I worry about sewer lines, etc. but guess all I can do is ask about them. I'm so happy your little plant is starting to grow up and bloom. Hurray!

And when you post I can't wait to read it too!! Thanks Pegi.

A rose by any other name is a rose, same goes for crepe and crape I think. *Blush*

I'm happy about this plant too, especially since my years of neglect and poor memory seem not to have bothered it.

Your little whachamacallit plant, or maybe it's the howeveryouspellit plant, must not care much about the weather. It's definitely a winner for you! I wonder if one would survive here?

Go here, Mary, I think you are colder than I am: http://www.usna.usda.gov/Garde...

Crape myrtles are heat loving shrubs, and may not bloom well in cool climates, it says.

They bloom all over town, but you know how hot it is here.

Thanks, Sharon. Guess I won't try one, my zone is 6a, which explains why there are no crape myrtles in this area. I'll just enjoy the pictures.

With your greenhouse, I'd sure be tempted, Mary.
I'm sure if you had a big pot, maybe one on wheels . . .

I think my greenhouse would not be a good place for it because even in the winter, with our intense sun, it gets very hot in there. That would cause it to put on a lot of growth way before it could safely be put outside. However, maybe inside the shop where it wouldn't wake up too fast. Hmmm.

I hope you're able to get one Mary. The come in any color, shade, hue, of pink, red, or purple you can think of.

They are also called lilac of the south but they have no fragrance.

We met up with some northern friends in southern KY last week-end and there were crape myrtles everywhere and they just love them. They can't grow them though where they live.
